No. 17 Panthers Travel To Boston College Friday Night For ACC Test

PITTSBURGH – The No. 17 Pitt men's soccer team (2-2-1, 0-0-0 ACC) hits the road for their first ACC road game of the season Friday night as they travel to Massachusetts to battle the Boston College Eagles. Friday's match will kick at 7:00 pm and air live on ACC Network Extra.

THE SERIES – BOSTON COLLEGE
- This meeting marks the 21st between the two programs all-time with Boston College holding the 12-6-2 lead in the series.
- The Panthers have won two straight in the series including a 1-0 home win over the Eagles last time they played in 2021.
- The Panthers haven't allowed a goal to the Eagles since 2016.
- Pitt is 3-6-0 all-time in games played in Boston.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Boston College is 2-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in ACC play so far this season. They fell 2-0 at NC State on Friday night in their conference opener.
- The Eagles are being led offensively by Jonathan Murphy who has netted two goals on two shots so far this season. Ted Cargill has also notched a goal while Xavier O'Neil leads the squad with two assists and 11 shots on the year.
- In goal, the Eagles have played two keepers so far this season. Brennan Klein has started four matches and owns a 2-1-1 overall record with a 0.50 goals-against average and three clean sheets while Leon Musial is 0-1-0 with a 3.00 goals-against average in his lone start.
- The Eagles were tabbed to finish fifth in the Atlantic Division in the preseason ACC Coaches' Poll. Sophomore Augustine Boadi was picked to the ACC Preseason Watch List.
LAST TIME OUT – VS. NO. 9 WAKE FOREST
- The Panthers got back on track Saturday night as they collected their first ranked win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of No. 9 Wake Forest.
- Pitt had three different goal scorers in the win as Eben McIntyre and Jackson Gilman each recorded their first career goals while Luis Sahmkow netted his second of the season and seventh of his career in the win.
- Senior Filip Mirkovic had a big night for Pitt as he notched two assists. Mirkovic had two perfect corner kicks that ended in goals in the win.
- In goal, Cabral Carter notched his second shutout of the season as he tied a career-high with five saves.
- For the match, Wake held the 14-12 lead in shots and the 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
RECENT SUCCESS FOR THE PANTHERS
- Appearing in two College Cups in the past three seasons, the Pitt men's soccer team has been one of the most successful programs in the nation.
- Pitt is the only team in the nation to appear in each of the past three Elite Eights.
- Over the past four seasons (2020-23), Pitt is tied for fourth in total wins among all teams in the nation with 42 victories.
- The Panthers have collected at least 12 wins in each of the past three seasons.

GILMAN LEADING BY EXAMPLE
- Heading into his sophomore campaign in 2023, Jackson Gilman has earned the repect of his teammates through his hard work and dedication to the Pitt crest.
- Gilman will wear the captain's armband for Pitt this season following in the footsteps of former teammate and captain Jackson Walti who also earned the armband as a sophomore.
- Gilman becomes the ninth different Panther to sport the captain's armband for Pitt since Jay Vidovich took over the program in 2016.
- Last time out, Gilman played a full 90 minutes on defense and helped the Panthers secure their second clean sheet of the season with a 3-0 win over No. 9 Wake Forest. The sophomore also contributed with a header goal in the second half, his first career goal, to secure the win for Pitt.
- So far this season, Gilman has played every minute (360) on the backline for Pitt while adding one goal and one assist and three shots offensively.
- A vocal leader on the pitch, Gilman appeared in all 22 matches in 2022 as a true freshman and played 1,992 total minutes. He also added three assists and 17 shots in his first season.
