PITTSBURGH – Pitt women's soccer recent graduate Athalie Palomo has signed a professional contract with Mexican professional women's club team Tigres UANL. Palomo joins Hailey Davidson, Dixon Veltri, Hollie Olding, Juliana Vazquez and Amaia Pena as the sixth player under Pitt head coach Randy Waldrum to turn pro.
The Irving, TX native was a four-year letterwinner in the previous four seasons for the Panthers. Palomo started in all 73 games she played in as a defended for Pitt, logging 5,915 minutes, 2 goals, 6 assists and 10 points in her career. In her first season, she made a strong impact starting all 17 of the contests she appeared in with a goal and an assist totaling 1,414 minutes. This past year, Palomo helped lead Pitt to its most successful season in their program history as the Panthers qualified for the ACC and NCAA Championships for the first time and reached the Sweet Sixteen.
Palomo will start preseason with the Amazonas this week. Tigres UANL Femenil was founded in 2016 and won their first league title at the Torneo Clausura just two seasons later in 2018. During this past Clausura 2023 regular season, Tigres Femenil went 12-3-2 and finished second in the Clausura 2023 League Championship.
