Sophomore Finn Walsh Advances to NCAA Outdoor Championships

JACKSONVILLE, FL—The University of Pittsburgh track and field team completed the final of NCAA East Regional with Sophomore Finn Walsh advancing to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, TX on June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
On Wednesday, the Panthers were represented on the field by Daniel Amaya in the men's hammer throw. Amaya placed 33rd with a mark of 196-2 (59.81m).
In the men's shot put, Otoniel Badjana claimed 39th place with a mark of 56-5.5 (17.18m).
Next, Senior Clement Campbell recorded 24th place with a mark of 24-2.5 (7.38m) in the men's long jump.
On the track, Finn Walsh notched an eighth-place finish in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:45.15 to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday.
In the men's 800m, Jack Balick ran a time of 1:49.84 to secure 24th place.
Freshman Devin Nugent advanced to the men's 400m hurdles by running a time of 51.07. Nugent recorded the 14th-best time on the track.
On Thursday, Junior Ilse Steigenga placed 30th in the women's long jump with a mark of 19-5.5 (5.93m).
Back on the track, Imani Clark claimed 38th place in the women's 200m with a time of 23.58.
On Friday, the men's 4x100m relay squad of Clement Campbell, Stephon Brown, Nigel Hussey, and Darren McQueen Jr. clocked a time of 40.16 to earn 17th place.
Jack Miller competed in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, with a time of 8:54.25 to cross the finish line in 16th place.
Walsh punched his ticket by advancing to Nationals in the men's 1500m with time of 3:49.34. He finished third on the track.
Senior Lydia Bottelier cleared 5-7.75 (1.72m). Her mark was 17th best on the field.
Closing out the day, Emily Brown and Sadie Carey-Tharp ran in the women's 3,000m steeplechase. Brown placed 19th with a time of 10:22.27 and Carey-Tharp placed 26th with a time of 10:40.36.
