CHAPEL HILL, NC – Pitt lacrosse fell Friday afternoon to No. 5 North Carolina 16-3 in a waterlogged contest in Chapel Hill.
Friday's game that was originally scheduled for 2 p.m. at Dorrance Field was moved to Finley North Field and delayed almost an hour due to conditions from pouring rain.
A slow start once again plagued the Panthers as Carolina jumped out to a six to zero start after fifteen minutes and 11-0 going into halftime.
Pitt showed fight after the break, only being outscored 5-3 in the remaining thirty minutes of the ACC game.
The three Panther goals were scored by Ava Washington, Emily Coughlin and Camdyn O'Donnell and gave life to a game that seemed out of reach especially in the opening half of play. Hannah Van Middelem and Molly Cain combined for eight saves in net and Jill Fenech and Coughlin each secured three draw controls.
North Carolina's offense was paced by Marissa White (6G), Caitlyn Wurzburger (5A) and Reilly Casey (4G) and Alecia Nicholas stopped five Panther shots to slow down the attack.
Pitt plays its final regular season home game next, Friday against Notre Dame. The Panthers four seniors: Molly Carter, Gabriella Turano, Hannah Van Middelem and Brittney Villhauer will be recognized before the conference mathchup at Highmark Stadium. Admission for all Panther home games is free for all fans.
