
Pitt Faces Virginia Tech in 2023 ACC Championship First Round

BLACKSBURG, VA – No. 10-seeded Pitt will face No. 7 Virginia Tech to open the 2023 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship, presented by Ally. The Panthers and Hokies face off at Thompson Field on the Virginia Tech campus Sunday at noon. The game will air live on the ACC Network.
Pitt closed out the 2023 regular season falling to No. 17 Clemson 17-7 at Historic Riggs Field Thursday. The loss brought their season record to 4-12 overall and 0-9 in ACC games.
Sophomore Sydney Naylor leads the team in points with 26 (18G, 8A) and sophomore Ava Washington finished in the team lead for goals with 22. Jill Fenech secured 56 draw controls and 23 ground balls, both numbers good enough for first among her fellow Panthers.
Virginia Tech finished the regular season at 9-8 and 3-6 in the ACC. The Hokies are coming off a 15-10 loss to No. 11 Virginia on Thursday.
Olivia Vergano leads the team in points and goals with 57 and 45 respectively. Ella Rishko also hit the 40 point mark with 35 goals and five assists. Sarah Gresham hit the 100 draw control mark with 101 in the 17 games and goalie Jocelyn Torres made 130 saves with a .455 save percentage in net.
The winner of Pitt-Virginia Tech will face No. 2 Syracuse next week in the championship quarterfinals.
