Panthers Fall to Duke in Series Finale

DURHAM, N.C. – The Pitt baseball team (12-13, 4-6 ACC) dropped the finale of a three-game ACC set against Coastal Division foe Duke (18-10, 6-6 ACC), 8-0, on Sunday at Jack Coombs Field.
The Blue Devils limited the Panthers to five hits in the contest.
Duke grabbed the early lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Blue Devils added two more on two hits and a Pitt error in the second. Duke tacked on its sixth run in the sixth by way of an RBI double. The eighth inning saw the Blue Devils plate two more on a two-out, two-RBI double.
Kyle Hess led Pitt at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort that included a triple. AJ Nessler collected a double for Pitt's only other extra-base hit on the day.
Pitt will play another midweek road game on Tuesday when it visits Youngstown State in a 5 p.m. matchup.
