Panthers Bounce Back with Shutout Win over Red Flash

LORETTO, Pa. – Dani Drogemuller and Abby Edwards anchored the Panthers and combined for a 4-0 shutout win over Saint Francis at the Red Flash Softball Field Tuesday afternoon. Pitt improved to 18-17 on the season and 16-8 in non-conference games.
Drogemuller earned the win, allowing just four hits with five strikeouts and issuing just one walk over 4.1 innings. Edwards came in for relief in the fourth inning and retired both batters faced to end the inning. Edwards earned the save with 2.2 shutout innings with a strikeout and a walk.
Graduate student Yvonne Whaley broke the scoreless tie with a lead off solo home run in the third inning, her second home run in the last three games. Whaley drew a walk two innings later while Sarah Seamans followed with a two-run homer to extend the Panthers lead 3-0.
Edwards entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and doubled to right field to put the Panthers in scoring position once again. Edwards scored Pitt's final run of the game off a single from Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez.
Grace Vesco suffered the loss for the Red Flash, allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Panthers return to Pittsburgh to host Georgia Tech in a three-game series April 14-16 at Vartabedian Field. All Pitt faculty and staff will receive free admission on Friday, April 14, as Pitt Softball celebrates Faculty, Staff, and Fan Appreciation Day.

- Abby Edwards has recorded her first career at-bats this season, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.
- Kat Rodriguez extended her on-base streak to 12 games and her hitting streak to seven games.
- Sarah Seamans also extended both her hitting streak and on-base streak each to eight games.
