HOW THEY GOT HERE
- Each gymnast was selected as one of the top 16 event specialists based on National Qualifying Scores (NQS).
- This competition marks Copperwheat's second NCAA qualification of her career, qualifying in 2022 on bars and beam.
- This was Garvey and Pawlak's NCAA debut.
HALLIE COPPERWHEAT
Copperwheat showed strong performances as she competed in the all-around. She posted a 9.900 for her bars routine and a 9.850 on floor. A Leighton Buzzard, England native, Copperwheat is the first Panther since Lindsay Offutt in 2016 to qualify in the all-around an an individual specialist. The sophomore leads Pitt with an NQS of 39.330 in the all-around and a season high 39.400. Over this season, Copperwheat has garnered eight event titles, matched the program record on bars (9.950), and was named EAGL Gymnast of the week four times – breaking the record of most honors in one season. Copperwheat also earned All-EAGL First Team accolades on bars, beam, and all-around, and Second Team on floor.
REYNA GARVEY
During the first session of Friday's NCAA Regional Championships, Garvey posted a 9.900 for her routine on bars. In this season's home opener with Temple, Penn, and Penn State on January 6, Garvey secured the first-place title on beam with a career-best 9.950 – the second highest score in program history matching Lindsay Offutt's score set on March 19, 2016. Overall, Garvey has won the first-place title on beam three times and has earned the all-around title once during her rookie season. The Pittsburgh, PA native currently holds the highest score of the team this season on beam (9.950 and was named EAGL Rookie of the Week two times. Her career highest on all four events are at least 9.775 or higher and she has the highest NQS on the team on beam (9.880). She has also been named First Team All-EAGL on beam and Second Team All-EAGL in the All-Around.
NATALIA PAWLAK
The Melissa, Texas native, Pawlak is set for her debut at the NCAA Regional Championships. Throughout her rookie season, Pawlak matched the program high bars record (9.950) along with Copperwheat, she earned two first-place titles on bars, and earned a EAGL Rookie of the Week honor. Her performance at the 2023 EAGL Championships earned her a spot on podium – tying for the second-place title in the conference on bars with her score of 9.900. She earned All-EAGL First Team honors and EAGL First Team All-Tournament accolades as well.
