Abby Edwards Struck Out a Career-High 11 Batters
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Ana Hernandez hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth to lift the Panthers over Morehead State, 3-2, and improve to 11-4 overall this season Saturday afternoon at Dot Hicks Field during the Thundering Herd Round Robin.
Abby Edwards (3-2) earned the win after tossing 5.2 shutout innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts. Edwards allowed just three hits and two walks in 22 batters faced. Graduate student Yvonne Whaley (2-for-4) and sophomore Ana Hernandez (2-for-4, 2 RBI) led the Panthers at the plate.
Morehead State held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth. Pitt scored a run in each of the final three innings en route to their win. Sophomore Haylie Brunson (1-for-3, R) hit a double in the sixth and was later brought home on a Hernandez single to put the Panthers on the board at 2-1. Senior Kat Rodriguez (1-for-1, RBI) hit a pinch-hit triple to even the score at 2-2 in the seventh before Hernandez brought home Lane on a single to end the game.

Pitt is back in action with two games Sunday against Kent State (10 a.m.) and host team Marshall (ESPN+ - 3 p.m.).
