PITTSBURGH – It's springtime in Pittsburgh as the eye of the athletic department turns to the spring sports. This past week, Emily Brown from track and field along with Nash Bryan from baseball stood out, putting together some remarkable performances to earn PNC Achiever of the Week honors.
Brown, a junior from Fredonia, NY, set a new Pitt record in the 3000m steeplechase, posting a 10:13.40 at the Raleigh Relays this past week. Her time broke the program record previously held by Kelly Hayes (2018) by 5.2 seconds. It was the fifth fastest time in the nation this season and the second fastest recorded by a member of the ACC. Brown shattered her personal best in the event (10:25.16) that earned her 10th place in the ACC Championships last spring.
Bryan, a graduate student from Butler, PA, anchored the Pitt bullpen this past week, appearing in three games with a line of 3.2 innings pitched, no runs or hits allowed while racking up five strikeouts. The RHP played a part in all three Panthers wins, earning a save in Pitt's victory over Virginia Tech on Friday (3/24) before earning himself the win in the Sunday victory over VT (3/26). He struck out all three batters he faced in the 8-3 midweek victory over Kent State (3/22). Bryan now leads the team with two saves this season while holding opposing hitters to a team-low .186 hitting in his 16 innings of relief.
