Abby Edwards Allows Just Three Hits and One Earned Run in 7.1 Innings
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Pitt dropped a hard-fought battle to Penn State, 1-0, in eight innings at Beard Field, Tuesday evening. The Panthers drop to 14-8 in non-conference play and 14-11 overall this season.
Abby Edwards (4-6) made her seventh start in the circle and fourth 7.0 or more inning outing this season, allowing just one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts compared to two walks, over 7.1 innings.
The Panthers and Nittany Lions were scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning, as Edwards held the Penn State batters to just two hits with one walk. Pitt was held to three hits, as senior Kat Rodriguez, graduate student Yvonne Whaley and senior Kayla Lane each picked up a hit for the Panthers' offense.
The Nittany Lions secured the win on a walk-off single to third base with the bases loaded. Bailey Parshall (11-3) earned the win in the circle after pitching 8.0 innings with 11 strikeouts and three hits.
