ATLANTA, GA – The Pitt women's basketball team (9-16, 2-12 ACC) earns a double overtime road win on Sunday afternoon against Georgia Tech as they downed the Yellow Jackets, 85-79. Pitt had five players score in double figures in the win.

Liatu King had a big game for the Panthers as she netted her fifth double-double of the season as she had 13 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Avery Strickland tied a career-high with 17 points and four rebounds while hitting a career-high four triples. Maliyah Johnson finished off her game with 16 points while Dayshanette Harris netted 15 and Channise Lewis finished with 11 in the win.

Trailing by three, 71-68, with 2.5 seconds to play, Lewis took the inbound pass and buried a contested triple to send the game to overtime with a buzzer-beating triple.

In the first overtime, Pitt had a pair of chances in the final seconds to win the game but came up short as the game went to a second overtime tied, 75-75.

Pitt finally pulled away late in the second overtime as King finished off an offensive rebound and layup to secure the road win for Pitt, 85-79.

FIRST QUARTER

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 9-2 run before the Panthers got back within 11-7 as Emy Hayford finished off a coast-to-coast layup and Avery Strickland came off the bench and buried a deep triple.
Georgia Tech used a 5-0 run late in the quarter to gain their biggest lead, 20-13, but the Panthers scored the final five of the quarter thanks to a triple by Dayshanette Harris and a driving layup by Liatu King to send the game to the second with Pitt trailing 20-18.
The Panthers held the Yellow Jackets to just 33.3% shooting in the first quarter but they hit four triples to take the lead into the second.

SECOND QUARTER

The Yellow Jackets scored the first five points of the quarter before Gabby Hutcherson hit a jumper in the lane to make it 25-20 in favor of GT.
Strickland netted her second triple of the game and Channise Lewis drew a foul on the screen to give Pitt another possession which turned into a King layup to tie the game, 25-25, three minutes into the quarter.
Georgia Tech scored the next seven points to push their lead out to 32-25 with just over five minutes to go in the half.
Strickland and Maliyah Johnson finished the half with triples as Pitt went to the halftime locker room trailing 41-33.
Georgia Tech closed out the first half with seven three-pointers while shooting 46% from the floor as they gained the eight-point lead.

THIRD QUARTER

The Panthers couldn't have asked for a better start to the third quarter as they went on an 8-0 run to force a Yellow Jackets timeout. Strickland netted a triple to open the run before Johnson finished off a layup and triple to tie the game, 41-41, just over a minute into the second half.
The two teams exchanged buckets over the next three minutes as Georgia Tech gained the 49-47 lead at the media timeout in the third quarter.
The Panthers outscored Georgia Tech 9-4 down the stretch of the quarter as Marley Washenitz finished off a layup after a great feed by Amber Brown to give Pitt the 56-53 lead through 30 minutes.

FOURTH QUARTER

Washenitz opened up the fourth quarter with a triple to give Pitt the four-point lead, 59-55, just over a minute into the final frame.
After a nice layup by Brown, the Yellow Jackets scored the next four points to gain the 62-61 lead over the Panthers at the fourth quarter media timeout.
Georgia Tech came out and finished a layup but Lewis responded with a triple to tie the game, 64-64.
The Yellow Jackets gained the 70-68 lead with 25 seconds to play and the Panthers missed a pair of layups and GT gained the rebound and was fouled. They made one of two free throws to give Pitt a chance for the tie, trailing 71-68, with 2.5 seconds to play.
On the ensuing inbound, Lewis took the pass and buried a contested triple as the buzzer sounded from the straight away to send the game to overtime.

OVERTIME

Harris made back-to-back buckets to tie the game, 75-75, with just over a minute to play.
The two teams each missed shots for the lead in the final minute before the Panthers had the final possession of the game with three seconds to play in the first overtime.
On the ensuing in bounds play, King got free under the basket and looked to get fouled but no call was made with 1.8 seconds to play.
Strickland got the final shot of the first overtime, a deep triple that didn't fall as the teams went to a second overtime.

DOUBLE OVERTIME

The Yellow Jackets gained two leads early in overtime number two but the Panthers didn't flinch.
Strickland finished off a free throw and King grabbed an offensive rebound and layup to take the 82-79 lead late in the quarter.
The Pitt defense held tough and didn't let the Yellow Jackets score down the stretch as they earned the 85-79 road win.

Pitt finished the game shooting 43.2% from the floor while holding the Yellow Jackets to 37.7% shooting.
Pitt shot 50% from behind the arc while holding the Yellow Jackets to just 25% from deep in the win.
The Pitt bench netted a season-high 58 points while the Panthers also netted 44 points in the paint in the win.
The Panthers bench netted 36 points in the loss while Notre Dame scored just eight.
