
Panthers Outlast Georgia Tech In Double Overtime On The Road, 85-79

ATLANTA, GA – The Pitt women's basketball team (9-16, 2-12 ACC) earns a double overtime road win on Sunday afternoon against Georgia Tech as they downed the Yellow Jackets, 85-79. Pitt had five players score in double figures in the win.
Liatu King had a big game for the Panthers as she netted her fifth double-double of the season as she had 13 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Avery Strickland tied a career-high with 17 points and four rebounds while hitting a career-high four triples. Maliyah Johnson finished off her game with 16 points while Dayshanette Harris netted 15 and Channise Lewis finished with 11 in the win.
Trailing by three, 71-68, with 2.5 seconds to play, Lewis took the inbound pass and buried a contested triple to send the game to overtime with a buzzer-beating triple.
In the first overtime, Pitt had a pair of chances in the final seconds to win the game but came up short as the game went to a second overtime tied, 75-75.
Pitt finally pulled away late in the second overtime as King finished off an offensive rebound and layup to secure the road win for Pitt, 85-79.

FIRST QUARTER
- The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 9-2 run before the Panthers got back within 11-7 as Emy Hayford finished off a coast-to-coast layup and Avery Strickland came off the bench and buried a deep triple.
- Georgia Tech used a 5-0 run late in the quarter to gain their biggest lead, 20-13, but the Panthers scored the final five of the quarter thanks to a triple by Dayshanette Harris and a driving layup by Liatu King to send the game to the second with Pitt trailing 20-18.
- The Panthers held the Yellow Jackets to just 33.3% shooting in the first quarter but they hit four triples to take the lead into the second.
- The Yellow Jackets scored the first five points of the quarter before Gabby Hutcherson hit a jumper in the lane to make it 25-20 in favor of GT.
- Strickland netted her second triple of the game and Channise Lewis drew a foul on the screen to give Pitt another possession which turned into a King layup to tie the game, 25-25, three minutes into the quarter.
