PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women’s basketball team (1-3, 0-0 ACC) returns home Tuesday morning as they play host to the Coppin State Eagles (2-3, 0-0 MEAC) in the 13th School Day game inside the Petersen Events Center. The game will tip at 11:00 am and air on ACC Network Extra.

SCHOOL DAY GAMES
- Tuesday’s game marks the 13th year of the School Day promotion at the Petersen Events Center.
- School Day is an opportunity for local area students to watch live Division I basketball while participating in fun contests and learning activities.
- The School Day game dates back to November 2009. Pitt is 9-3 all-time when hosting the promotion, winning five of the past six.
- Last season, the Panthers secured their biggest School Day victory as they claimed a 93-54 victory over Bryant. The 93 points were the most scored in School Day games history.
- Across the 12 years of the promotion, the Panthers have averaged 5,816 fans per game while the Panthers are averaging 63.7 points per game and holding opponents to just 52.6 points per contest.

CLEANING THE GLASS
- The Panthers have been strong on the glass early on this season as they rank fourth in the ACC in rebounds per game (44.8 rpg).
- Pitt has been even better on the offensive glass as they lead the ACC and rank 16th in the nation averaging 17.8 offensive rebounds per game. For the first time in program history, Pitt has secured at least 17 offensive rebounds in four straight games to start the season.
- The Panthers also rank fifth in the ACC this year in rebounding margin (+10.5 rpg). Rapuluchi Ayodele leads the nation in offensive rebounds per game (7.0 orpg) while Liatu King ranks 13th in the nation (5.0 orpg).

STORYLINES
- Senior forward Liatu King is enjoying a great start to the season as she is one of three players averaging a double-double in the ACC (16.3 ppg, 12.8 rpg). King currently ranks second in the nation in double-doubles (three) while ranking 10th in the country in rebounds per game (12.8 rpg). She is the first Panther in over 20 years to start the season with three straight double-doubles
- Forward Rapuluchi Ayodele had another big game on the glass for Pitt last time out as she grabbed 13 rebounds (eight offensive). Ayodele is one of three players averaging a double-double in the ACC (10.3 ppg, 13.0 rpg) while also leading the nation in offensive rebounds per game (7.0 orpg)
THE OPENING TIP
- Pitt returns home Tuesday morning as they welcome the Coppin State Eagles for the annual School Day game at 11:00 am. Tuesday’s game will air live on ACC Network Extra
- Tuesday’s game will mark the 13th School Day game for Pitt as they own a 9-3 record in the previous 12 games. Over 2,000 school-aged kids are expected on Tuesday.
- Freshman point guard Aaryn Battle earned her first career start on Saturday afternoon, and she produced for the Panthers. Battle finished the game with eight points, three rebounds and an assist in 25 minutes of work for the Panthers.
SERIES HISTORY – COPPIN STATE
- This meeting marks the fifth between the two teams in program history with Pitt owning the 3-1 lead in the all-time series.
- The Panthers have won two straight in the series including a 56-41 road win over the Eagles last season.
- Pitt is 2-1 all-time at home against Coppin State including a 67-51 home win in the last meeting at the Pete on Dec. 7, 2021.
- Pitt has held the Eagles to just 47.0 ppg in the previous four meetings in the series.
- The Panthers are 18-1 all-time against current members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Coppin State enters Tuesday’s game with a 2-3 overall record after earning a 70-66 road win over Florida International Saturday afternoon. The Eagles dropped a road contest against ACC member Syracuse earlier this year, 80-47.
- The Eagles are being led offensively by Faith Blackstone who is averaging 16.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game while connecting on a team-high eight three-pointers. Laila Lawrence is averaging 14.6 points and a team-high 8.8 rebounds while shooting 51.8% from the floor on the season.
- Angel Jones is averaging 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds on 51.3% from the floor while Mossi Staples leads the squad with 10 assists and 10 steals.
- As a team, the Eagles are averaging 62.0 points per game while allowing an average of 64.2 points against. They are shooting 36.1% from the floor and 24.6% from deep while opponents are shooting 45% against them. They are trailing opponents in the rebounding battle (34.8 to 39.2 rpg).
LAST TIME OUT – AT DUQUESNE
- Despite leading for over 21 minutes of game time, the Panthers fell on the road Saturday in the 41st City Game to the Duquesne Dukes, 56-55. Pitt was outscored 33-28 in the second half in the loss.
- Trailing by two, 54-52, with nine seconds to play, the Panthers had what looked to be the game-tying layup as Liatu King grabbed a lob pass and finished in the lane. However, the basket was called off as King was called for a phantom travel. The Dukes sank free throws down the stretch and earned the home win.
- Liatu King netted 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks while Bella Perkins came off the bench and netted 11 points and four rebounds in the loss. Rapuluchi Ayodele continued her strong play with six points and a team-high 13 rebounds while Gabby Hutcherson came off the bench and netted seven points and six boards.
- As a team, Pitt held the 16-6 edge in scoring inside the paint and the 13-2 lead in second chance points in the loss. Duquesne turned 18 Pitt turnovers into 20 points as they earned the win.
