PITTSBURGH – Pitt travels to Brooklyn to face Florida Wednesday, Nov. 22 in the opening round of the NIT Season Tip-Off. Opening tip is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. with Kevin Brown and Fran Fraschilla calling the action on ESPNU.
THE OPENING TIP
- The Panthers 6-2 all-time in the NIT Season Tip-Off (formerly Preseason NIT). The Panthers appeared in the event during the 1991-92 and 2012-13 seasons.
- Wednesday’s contest begins a string of five consecutive games against Power Five opponents for the Panthers. Pitt has not played five consecutive Power Five teams before the December holiday break in program history. Pitt will play the five opponents over a 15-day span with three of the games at neutral or road sites.
- The Panthers are averaging 95.5 points per game and have topped the 85-point mark in four consecutive games. Pitt has not scored 85 or more points in four consecutive games since topping the 85-point mark in the first seven games of the 1989-90 season.
- Carlton Carrington was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week after averaging 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists with shooting splits of .523/.500/.900 in wins over FGCU and Jacksonville.
- Ishmael Leggett is stuffing the stat sheet averaging 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game this season. He has posted 14+ points, 7+ rebounds, and 4+ assists in each of the past three games.
PANTHER SPOTLIGHTS
- Ishmael Leggett is eight points shy of reaching the 1,000-point plateau for his career. He enters Friday’s contest with 992 points in 91 career games (10.9 ppg.).
- Blake Hinson has made at least one three-pointer in 17 consecutive games and in 38 of 40 games as a Panther. He is 110-of-289 (.381) from three-point range at Pitt.
- Carlton Carrington is the first Pitt freshman to score 15 or more points in each of his first four games. He is averaging 18.0 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds and 6.3 assists per contest.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Blake Hinson has topped the 20-point mark in two of the past three games and is averaging 23.0 points per game, while going 11-of-28 (.393) from three-point range in that span. He ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring (20.5 ppg.) and three-point field goals (3.3 3pg.) for the season.
- Ishmael Leggett has started 73 consecutive games with 47 double figure scoring efforts in that stretch. He has scored 10 or more points in 32 of his past 35 games. Leggett is averaging 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game this season.
- Federiko Federiko is averaging 7.3 points, 7.8 rebounds (3.8 orpg.), and 3.0 blocks per game and has seven dunks on the season. He is tied for the league lead in blocks per game and has blocked two or more shots in each of the first four games of the season.
- Zack Austin has made 60 or more threes and blocked 60 or more shots in each of the past two seasons. He and Duke’s Shane Battier (2000, 2001) are the only two players to accomplish that feat in multiple seasons. Austin is currently averaging 5.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game.
- Twins Guillermo and Jorge Diaz Graham are averaging a combined 16.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 65.7 percent (23-of-35) from the field, including 50 percent (8-of-16) from three-point range. The duo totaled 31 points and 16 rebounds in Friday’s win over Jacksonville.

- Carlton Carrington has a 5.0:1 assist-to-turnover ratio (25:5) while playing a team-high 122 minutes through the first four games of the season. He leads the ACC in assists (6.3 apg.), while also ranking tied for 10th in scoring (18.0 ppg.).
- Wednesday’s contest with Florida is Pitt’s third consecutive games against opponents from the state of Florida. The last time the Panthers faced three or more Florida teams was during the 1948-49 season when they played consecutive doubleheaders against Miami and Florida.
- The Panthers rank third in the NCAA with a +20.8 rebound margin per game and fifth in rebounds per game (50.3 rpg.). Ishmael Leggett (8.0 rpg.), Federiko Federiko (7.8 rpg.), Guillermo Diaz Graham (5.8 rpg.), Blake Hinson (5.8 rpg.), Carlton Carrington (5.5 rpg.), and Zack Austin (5.0 rpg.) are each averaging at least 5.0 rebounds per game.
- Pitt is averaging 11.3 three-point field goals per game (11th in the NCAA) with Blake Hinson and Carlton Carrington combining for 27 of the team’s 45 threes. The Panthers have outscored the opposition 135-72 from beyond the arc over the first four games.
