
Panthers Host Virginia Tech At Ambrose Friday Night

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's soccer team (4-3-3, 1-1-2 ACC) closes out their three-match homestand Friday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field as they play host to the Virginia Tech Hokies. Friday's match will kick at 7:00 pm and air live on ACC Network Extra.

THE SERIES VS. VIRGINIA TECH
- This meeting marks the 16th all-time between the two programs with the Panthers holding the slim 6-5-4 edge in the series.
- The Panthers have won six straight in the series (two in overtime) including a 1-0 road win over the Hokies last season. During the six-match win streak, Pitt is outscoring VT 16-6.
- Pitt is 4-2-2 all-time against Virginia Tech in Pittsburgh and have won four straight against the Hokies at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- The last win for Virginia Tech in the series came in 2018 as they earned a 3-1 home victory over the Panthers.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
- Virginia Tech enters Friday's match with a 3-3-3 overall record and a 2-1-1 ACC mark on the year after falling to Clemson 2-1 on the road last Friday.
- The Hokies are being led offensively by Noe Uwimana who has earned six starts and has posted two goals, three assists and seven points on six shots. Oliver Roche has a team-high three goals on 13 shots while Declan Quill has a goal, two assists and a team-high 20 shots on the year.
- In goal, the Hokies have used a pair of keepers as Timi Adams has earned six starts and owns a 3-1-2 record with a 1.28 goals-against average and one shutout. Connor Jordan-Hyde has started three matches and is 0-2-1 with a 3.29 goals-against average.
LAST TIME OUT VS. #18 NORTH CAROLINA
- The Panthers put together a strong defensive performance Friday night as they earned a point with the 0-0 home draw against #18 North Carolina.
- After a slow start to the match, Pitt controlled the second half as they outshot the Tar Heels 8-5 in the final 45 minutes. Guilherme Feitosa hit to posts for the Panthers in the draw.
- For the match, the two teams were tied with 11 shots and four corner kicks each.
- In goal, Cabral Carter tied a career-high with five saves in his fourth career clean sheet.
MIRKOVIC THE MAGICIAN
- Senior midfielder Filip Mirkovic has developed into one of the most dangerous and creative players in the country during his time as a Panther.
- Mirkovic has started all nine matches he's appeared in (red card suspension vs. Howard) and has produced a team-high seven assists, 16 shots (seven on goal) in 762 minutes of work. His seven assists leads the ACC and ranks fourth in the NCAA.
- After tying the program record with 26 career assists in the win over Denver, Mirkovic finished off last match with three shots (two on goal) in the draw against #18 UNC.
- In the win over FDU, Mirkovic had a performance to remember as he secured a program single game record tying four assists in the 5-1 win. The four assists tied a school and ACC single game record as he became just the third ACC players in the past 30 seasons to notch a four-assist match.
- The multi-assist game marked his sixth of his career (all coming in the past two seasons).
- Mirkovic now has recorded 26 career assists for the Panthers which is tied with Eric Prex (1991-94) for the most in program history.
- His 26 career assists also ranks 2nd in the NCAA among active players. He is just two assists behind Willem Ebbinge (Harvard) for most among active players in the nation (28).
- In 2022, Mirkovic was great as he started 20 matches and posted three goals, a team-high and ACC-leading 12 assists and 18 points while adding 38 shots. He ranked 1st in the ACC in assists (12) and 6th in total points (18). He also capped his junior campaign ranked 7th in the NCAA in assists per game (0.60).
- The senior brings loads of experience to the field for the Panthers as he has appeared in 68 matches and started 64. He has posted nine goals, 26 assists and 44 points to go along with 95 shots in four years of action for Pitt.
HOME TURF ADVANTAGE
- The Panthers have been one of the best teams in the country on their home turf over the past four seasons as they own a 35-5-7 record at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- Pitt held a 19-match home winning streak from Oct. 7, 2019 to Nov. 10, 2021, which at the time was the longest streak in the ACC and second longest unbeaten streak in the nation.
- Head coach Jay Vidovich is 38-18-8 at home in his eight seasons at Pitt.
- Since the start of the 2019 season, Pitt has outscored its opponents 118-45 at home including a 15-5 advantage this season.
- The Panthers win percentage (.823) at home since 2019 is the best in the ACC and 6th best overall in the NCAA.
