
No. 18 Pitt Women’s Soccer Set to Face No. 1 Florida State

PITTSBURGH - The No. 18 women's soccer team heads down to Tallahassee, FL to face the No. 1 ranked team in the country, Florida State, on Thursday, Oct. 19. This Top-20 ranked ACC matchup is set to start at 7 PM and will be aired live on the ACC Network Extra.

THE SERIES
- This will be the 12th meeting between the Panther and the Seminoles with Florida State holding a 11-0 edge on Pitt.
- The Panthers are looking to continue their momentum from the season and upset Florida State for the first time in program history.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
- The No. 1 Florida State Seminoles have not lost a game thus far in the season, having only ended a matchup in a draw once against North Carolina.
- In Thursday evening's matchup against No. 11 Notre Dame, Florida State posted four goals to the Fighting Irish's one, taking the ranked win.
- The Seminoles won the NCAA Championships in 2021 and made it to the College Cup 13 times with their most recent being last season.
- Last time out, the Panthers met the Seminoles in their first ever appearance in the third round of the NCAA tournament with Florida State taking the 3-0 win.
RECAPPING SATURDAY'S SHUTOUT
- The Panthers left Syracuse scoreless on Saturday afternoon, shutting out the Orange 6-0.
- With this win, Pitt has now tied their record for most ACC wins in program history.
- At just the 15th minute, Ellie Coffield put the Panthers on the board first after launching the ball from behind the 18 to secure the goal. This is Coffield's 4th goal on the season.
- Junior Samiah Phiri notched the second goal of the afternoon for the Panthers after heading in the ball off of Sarah Schupansky's clean cross for the assist.
- Just moments later, Amanda West completed the final goal of the first half after connecting with a straight assist from Keera Melenhorst.
- Sarah Schupansky posted the fourth goal for Pitt after streamlining the ball from outside the box. This is Schupansky's 10th goal on the season.
- At the 60th minute, Landy Mertz put her name on the stats sheet, completing her first goal of the afternoon after a direct cross from Schupansky for the assist.
- Just minutes later, West added to her all-time scoring lead and completed the sixth and final goal for the Panthers.
- The Panthers finished the afternoon with 31-3 shots, 16-3 shots on goal, and 9-2 corner kicks.
