
Panthers Head South To Take On Florida State Sunday Afternoon

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (7-11. 0-7 ACC) looks for their first ACC road win of the season Sunday afternoon as they head south to Tallahassee, FL to take on the Florida State Seminoles. Sunday's game will tip at 2:00 pm and air live on ACC Network Extra.

- Junior Liatu King has been the Panthers' best player all season long as she leads the squad averaging 11.2 points and 8.5 rebounds while shooting 43.5% from the floor. King ranks 6th in the ACC in rebounds (8.5 rpg) and blocks (1.6 bpg).
- Senior Amber Brown is on a roll for Pitt as she netted her seventh straight game in double figures against#12 Virginia Tech, finishing with 17 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Over her past five games, Brown is averaging a team-high 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals while shooting 57.7% from the floor.
- The Panthers return to the road Sunday as they head south to take on Florida State for a 2:00 tip on ACC Network Extra.
- The undersized forward duo of Liatu King and Amber Brown are combining to average 22.1 points and 13.9 rebounds while shooting 47.9% from the floor on the year.
- Sophomore guard Maliyah Johnson has been one of the most improved players in the ACC this year as she has raised her scoring average from 1.9 ppg as a freshman to 9.1 ppg this season. Last time out, Johnson netted 13 points and four rebounds while going 5-for-7 from the floor. She has scored in double figures eight times this season after not scoring in double figures as a freshman.
- This meeting marks the 10th between the two programs with Florida State winning each of the previous nine games.
- The Seminoles won the meeting last year in Pittsburgh 57-52.
- Florida State is 4-0 in games played in Tallahassee including a 67-53 victory in the last meeting there in 2020.
- The Florida State Seminoles enter Sunday's game with a 17-4 overall record and a 6-2 ACC mark. The Seminoles are coming off of a 77-68 road win over Virginia on Thursday.
- Freshman phenom Ta'Niya Latson has been one of the best players in the nation so far this season as she is averaging an ACC-high 23.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals while shooting 47.9% from the floor and hitting 28 triples. She ranks 6th in the NCAA in scoring so far this season.
- Makayla Timpson is enjoying a nice sophomore season as she is averaging a career-high 13.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks while shooting an ACC-high 61.3% from the floor. Sara Bejedi is averaging 11.5 points and 2.5 assists while connecting on 22 triples.
- As a team, Florida State leads the ACC and ranks 6th in the NCAA in scoring offense (86.4 ppg).
- Senior captain Amber Brown hasn't missed a game over her four-year career and has earned the start in every single game.
- The do-it-all player has started all 98 career games for the Panthers while averaging 28.1 minutes per game in her career.
- Brown will be making her 99th straight start to begin her career Sunday, marking the most consecutive starts to begin a career for a Pitt player since Brianna Kiesel started a program record 122 straight games (2011-14).
- Brown's streak of 98 straight games to start a career are the most by any active ACC player without missing a game. Virginia Tech's Elizabeth Kitley has earned 104 starts in a row to start her career but she has also missed games over her career as a Hokie.
- Pitt returns home Thursday, Jan. 26 for another ACC test as the #17 North Carolina Tar Heels come to town.
