
Pitt Sweeps the EAGL Weekly Awards for the First Time in Program History

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team has claimed all three weekly awards announced by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Wednesday morning.
Pitt freshman Reyna Garvey has been named EAGL Rookie of the Week, sophomore Sidney Washington claimed EAGL Gymnast of the week, and sophomore Jordyn Ewing is this week's EAGL Specialist. This is the first time in program history that the Panthers have claimed all three awards in one week.
Freshman Garvey currently claims the top beam score (9.950) of the season after her first collegiate appearance in the Keystone Classic on Friday night. The Pittsburgh, PA native not only earned the team's highest all-around score of the evening, recording a 39.150, but she currently holds the highest all-around score in the EAGL as well.
In Friday's quad meet against Penn State, UPenn, and Temple, Washington set a new personal record (9.875) – earning the first-place title in vault. She led the event on floor and earned a career-high score of 9.900 for her routine. Washington currently holds the top vault and floor score in the EAGL conference for the season.
Ewing took the lead for the team in the Keystone Classic with her bar routine, scoring a 9.825. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native took the second-place title on beam with her score of 9.925 – setting a new personal record and currently holds the second highest score in the EAGL for this season. She completed the home opening meet with her floor routine where she scored a 9.850.

The Panthers will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah for their first road test of the season against Iowa, California and Oregon State at the Wasatch Classic, Sunday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
