PITTSBURGH – Pitt junior catcher Tatem Levins was selected in the eighth round (No. 246) of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft Monday afternoon by the Seattle Mariners. Levins becomes Pitt's highest draft pick since 2018 and the 94th draft selection head coach Mike Bell has worked with during his coaching career.
Levins, who transferred to Pitt prior to the 2022 campaign following three seasons at La Salle, started all 56 games for the Panthers, leading the squad in batting average (.321), slugging percentage (.613), OPS (1.048), hits (68), extra base hits (27), home runs (16) and total bases (130). He was named Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Year in addition to garnering Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American recognition at La Salle in 2019. Levins also earned ABCA/Rawlings All Region Second Team and All-Atlantic 10 Conference Second-Team following his third and final season with the Explorers in 2021.
The Langhorne, Pa., native is the 65th Pitt player selected in the MLB Draft and the second Panther taken by the Seattle franchise.
