PITTSBURGH – Pitt baseball (27-26, 13-16) fell 13-7 to Georgia Tech (33-21, 15-15) Saturday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field.

The Panthers got the initial lead in their first trip to the plate. Jeffrey Wehler drew a leadoff walk and scored on a double to right center from Tatem Levins. With an out, Ron Washington, Jr. hit a double down the right field line that was initially ruled a foul ball but overturned by replay.

The Yellow Jackets tied it up with a two-run homer in the third inning.

Pitt went back up in the bottom of the inning. Bryce Hulett (eighth of the season) and CJ Funk (fifth of the year) hit back-to-back solo homers with one out.

The Panthers added a run in the next inning. With one out, Levins was hit by a pitch, advanced on a throwing error from the pitcher and scored after two-straight wild pitches.

Georgia Tech took the lead with five runs in the fifth inning on an RBI-single, RBI-double, sac fly and two-run homer.

After the Yellow Jackets plated three runs in the eighth inning, the Panthers responded with two of their own. Jordan Anderson hit a one-out single to right field. Wehler walked, and Levins hit another RBI-double to centerfield to knock in pinch-runner Dom Popa and Wehler. The Panthers would have the tying run at the plate after walks from Sky Duff and Washington, Jr., but a fly ball from Hulett was caught in right field right at the wall.

Georgia Tech put it away with a two-run homer in the ninth inning.

The Panthers return to action next week with the ACC Tournament with the official bracket and schedule of games to be announced later.

Logan Evans started and went five innings with four earned runs, seven hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
In program history, Washington, Jr. is tied for fifth in career doubles (47) with Brad Rea (1999-02), tied for seventh in career starts (192) with Rea, tied for ninth in career games played (197) with Stuart Rykaceski (1999-03) and tied for 11th in career walks (87) with Brant Colamarino (2000-02).
For single-season records, Levins moved into a tie for seventh in hit by pitches (13) with several others, tie for 15th in RBI (52) with Zach Duggan (2010) and Jon DeBernardis (1995) and tie for the 18th in total bases (121) in a single-season with Connor Perry (2019) and Stephen Vranka (2013).
Duff is tied for 13th in walks (39) with former teammate Cole MacLaren (2018) and Jacob Wright (2017).
Baron Stuart is tied for seventh in pitching appearances (25) with Yasin Chentouf (2018) and Alex Caravella (2011), and Brady Devereux is tied for 14th (23) with several others.
