The Eagles scored on their first trip to the plate on three singles through the left side, but Pitt led for the rest of the game starting in the next frame. Ron Washington, Jr. led off with a double down the left field line, advanced on a groundout and tagged up on a sac fly to centerfield from Jack Anderson. CJ Funk drew a walk and raced from first base to home on a double that landed on the warning track in right center from Tommy Tavarez. Jordan Anderson followed with the third double of the inning down the left field line to bring home Tavarez standing up.
Tatem Levins led off the third inning with a triple that was inches away from a homer off the right field wall. With one out, Washington, Jr. hit his eighth homer of the year near the left field foul pole.
