PITTSBURGH – Matt Gilbertson (7-2) threw a complete game, two-hit shutout in eight innings as Pitt baseball (23-16) defeated North Carolina A&T (12-28) 10-0 Friday night at Charles L. Cost Field. Gilbertson hasn't allowed a walk in his last 41.2 innings pitched with 42 strikeouts, including a career-high 12 in this victory.
Due to forecasted inclement weather Sunday, the Panthers and Aggies will finish the series Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and an approximate 45-minute break in between games. The senior day pregame ceremony will be held before the first game.
Bryce Hulett secured the game-winning run with a leadoff homer to left center in the second inning, his seventh of the year. The bases were loaded with three-straight walks from Jack Anderson, Tommy Tavarez and CJ Funk. With two outs, Jeffrey Wehler knocked in Anderson and Tavarez.
The Panthers added to their lead next in the sixth inning. Anderson and Tavarez drew one-out walks and advanced on a wild pitch. Brock Franks brought in Anderson with a single to left field.
Another Pitt run came in the next inning. Wehler led off with a single to centerfield and stole second base. After a single through the left side from Ron Washington, Jr., Wehler raced home safely on a sac fly to centerfield from Hulett.
