Winners of 11 of the last 14 games, Pitt improves to 6-2 at home in ACC play, all against ranked teams (8-0 and 10-7 over then-No. 20 Clemson, March 25, 8-7 and 6-3 against then-No. 5 Louisville, April 2-3 and 9-4 over Virginia Friday).
Â
Pitt got on the board first in the second inning. The bases were loaded on an infield single from Jack Anderson, walk from Tommy Tavarez and a fielding error from the pitcher on a sac bunt by Dom Popa. With one out, Josh Overbeek hit the ball deep enough in left field for the sac fly.
Â
The Cavaliers tied it up the fourth inning on an RBI-double.
Â
The Panthers took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. With one out, the bases were loaded again on walks to Tavarez and Popa and a single to centerfield from Overbeek. Nick Giamarusti hit the team's second sac fly to left field to bring home Tavarez.
Â
Pitt added two insurance runs in the seventh inning. Tatem Levins led off with an infield single and went to second on a throwing error from the catcher off a bunt by Cameron Barto. With one out, Bryce Hulett loaded the bases with a single to left field. Tavarez brought in Levins with a walk, and pinch-hitter Ron Washington, Jr. knocked in Barto with a single to left field.
