Washington Earns Third EAGL Rookie of the Week Honor

PITTSBURGH — Pitt freshman Sidney Washington has been named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row and the third time this season, as announced Wednesday by the conference.
In Sunday's dual meet against the No. 24 Towson Tigers, Washington earned her second all-around individual title of the season with a career-high 39.475.
The Ann Arbor, Mich. native recorded a new career-high on beam (9.875) and tied her career-best scores on bars (9.850) and floor (9.900). Washington's efforts on beam assisted in the Panthers breaking the program beam record for the third time this season with a team score of 49.350.
Washington took home three individual titles (T-BB: 9.875, FX: 9.900, AA: 39.475) on the night.
She is the third gymnast in program history to earn the Rookie of the Week honor at least three times, joining Haley Brechwald (2016) and Haley Bodenheimer (2012) in the achievement.
Up next, the Panthers will compete in their last meet of the regular season, traveling to No. 16 Ohio State for a tri-meet with No. 10 Cal, Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. ET.
