FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Pitt baseball (5-4) fell 5-3 to Army (2-5) in the opener of the All-American Classic Friday at Segra Stadium. The Black Knights scored five unanswered runs to earn the late-inning comeback victory.
Army took the lead with three runs in its last trip to the plate in the eighth inning. Getting its leadoff batter to third base with no outs, the runner scored off an infield single to tie the game up. A one-out double gave the Black Knights the lead for good, and an insurance run was added on a sac fly.
The Black Knights got on the board in the sixth inning. After two singles to start the frame, both runners came home on a two-out single to centerfield.
Tatem Levins produced the game's first run in the second inning with a leadoff homer to right field on the first pitch he saw, his third of the year.
Levins led off the fourth inning with a double to right field, advanced to third base on an errant throw on a failed pickoff attempt and scored on a sac fly by Jack Anderson.
Pitt added another run in the next inning. Jordan Anderson hit a single through the left side with one out and came home after three-straight walks by Sky Duff, Jeffrey Wehler and Kyle Hess.
