PITTSBURGH — Pitt freshman Sidney Washington has been named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the conference.
In last Friday's quad meet at Texas Woman's University versus No. 6 LSU and Centenary College, Washington recorded three scores of at least a 9.800. Her highest score of the night was on floor, 9.875, was a team-high, tying for third overall.
The Ann Arbor, Mich. native tied her career-high on bars with a 9.850, assisting in the team's highest event score of the night (49.250), in addition to recording a 9.800 on vault. Washington has consistently earned a 9.800 or higher in all but one meet throughout her collegiate career on vault.
This marks the second Rookie of the Week accolade for Washington this season, earning the honor the first time around after the Texas Woman's dual meet in January in which she took home the all-around title with a then-team-high 39.250.
Up next, the Panthers return home for the final home meet of the season vs. Towson on Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House. We will honor and celebrate our seniors after competition prior to the awards ceremony.
