
Pitt Beats Bucknell 21-6 in Home-Opener

Pitt scored often and early in the blowout, beginning with eight runs in the first inning. Kyle Hess led off with a homer to right field, his fifth of the year. Jeffrey Wehler singled to left field and stole second base. With two outs, Ron Washington, Jr. hustled for an infield single, and Wehler scored on a throwing error from the pitcher to first base. Washington, Jr. advanced to second base on a wild pitch and came home on a single up the middle from Bryce Hulett. The bases were loaded on walks from Jack Anderson and Brock Franks. CJ Funk knocked in one run on a single through the left side. Hess cleared the bases with a triple down the right field line and scored on a wild pitch.
In the second inning, Hulett led off with an infield single to second base. Anderson then homered to left center.
The third homer was a one-out solo homer to left field in the third inning from Washington, Jr., his third of the season.
Funk led off the next inning with a double to left field. Wehler hit a one-out RBI-double to left center. Tatem Levins hit his first homer of the game to centerfield. With two outs, Washington, Jr. and Hulett walked. Anderson followed with his second homer and third of the year to right field.
Pitt added three more runs in the fifth inning. Funk and Hess began the frame with walks. With one out, Levins hit his team-leading eighth homer of the season to right field.
The Panthers' final run came in the seventh inning. Luke Lambert led off with a single through the right side. With one out, Dom Popa was hit by a pitch. Lambert scored on a single to left field from Anderson.
Pitt plays its second-straight game at home Wednesday against Youngstown State.

- Ben Dragani started and went four innings with two runs, five hits, one walk and four strikeouts.
- Brady Devereux (1-0) earned the win in relief, throwing two innings with one run, two hits, one walk and three strikeouts.
- Kyle Demi made his Panthers' debut, pitching the final frame.
- Pitt finished with 12 walks, the most since recording 15 in a 7-2 win over Villanova on Feb. 15, 2019.
- Pitt hit six homers for the first since doing so against Grambling State in an 18-5 win on Feb. 28, 2016.
- In two midweek games, the Panthers have combined for 36 runs and 11 homers (five in a 15-5 victory last Wednesday at High Point).
- Hess' leadoff homer was the first since Connor Perry's at Virginia on March 22, 2019.
- Duff extended his reached-base streak to 37 games with a walk.
- Levins, Hulett and Anderson all went 3-5, and Hulett and Anderson also each had a walk.
- Andersion finished with six RBI while Levins had four.
- Hess also had two walks with his homer and triple from the first inning.
- Washington, Jr. went 2-3 with two walks.
- Wehler reached base three times with a double, single and walk.
