PITTSBURGH – Pitt baseball (9-8) fell 5-2 to Youngstown State (6-10) at Charles L. Cost Field Wednesday afternoon.
Bryce Hulett, on his birthday, led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run off the top of the batter's box, his third of the season.
The Penguins tied it up with a leadoff homer in the fifth inning and took the lead with a three-run homer with two outs in the seventh.
The Panthers' comeback in the ninth inning fell just short. Pitt had two runners in scoring position with no outs after Jeffrey Wehler led off with a double to left center, Tatem Levins was hit by a pitch and both advanced on a wild pitch. Only one run would score on an RBI-groundout from Ron Washington, Jr.
Pitt resumes ACC play with a three-game series at Virginia Tech, beginning Friday at 2 p.m.
