Pitt Swimming Posts Dominant Swims in Cavalier Invitational

PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh posted impressive results in the Cavalier Invitational at the Fitness and Aquatic Center in Charlottesville, Va. this weekend. The select number of Pitt swimmers combined to earn over 20 podium finishes and almost every athlete earned a new personal best on the weekend.
Junior Maddie London had a standout weekend, winning both the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Breaststroke Finals with new personal bests of 1:02.91 and 2:17.77 respectively. Freshman Sophie Knepper also made personal strides, earning three PRs in the 50 Free (24.06), 100 Backstroke (54.78), and the 200 Backstroke (1:59.94).
For the men, freshmen Paul Lerro and Wesley Kephart both recorded their first collegiate wins, while both achieving three PRs each as well. Lerro recorded times of 21.66 in the 50 Free, 49.97 in the 100 Backstroke, and 1:49.49 in the 200 Backstroke, placing first in the men's 100 Back prelims. Kephart started off the weekend on a high note with a win in the men's 500 Free prelims, securing a new PR of 4:31.53. Kephart continued throughout the weekend to also notch best times in the 100 Free (46.33) and the 200 Free (1:42.04).
Other highlights of the meet include sophomore Ethan Neff recording his first collegiate win in the men's 100 Back with a new PR of 49.71, and freshman Avery McFaddin crushing her previous time in the 200 Fly by four seconds with a time of 2:05.88.
Next up, the Panthers will travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the ACC Men's and Women's Championships slated for Feb. 15-19.
