Baseball Falls 11-3 to Canisius in Season-Opener

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Pitt baseball dropped its 2022 season-opener 11-3 to Canisius in the Snowbird Classic Friday afternoon at Centennial Park.
The Golden Griffins pounced early with a two-run double and another run on a passed ball with two outs in the third inning. They secured the game-winning run in the next inning on another RBI-double. The rest of Canisius' runs came on four homers and a wild pitch.
The Panthers got on the board in the sixth inning. Jeffrey Wehler led off with a single to centerfield, and Tatem Levins homered to right field with two outs.
Pitt's last run came in the final frame. The bases were loaded with a walk by Jack Anderson, single from Luke Lambert and Dom Popa hit-by-pitch. With one out Tommy Tavarez knocked in Anderson with a single to right field.
Pitt and Canisius play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m.
