
Panthers Set for Tri-Meet at West Virginia

PITTSBURGH, Pa.—The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (4-4, 2-2 EAGL) will face rival West Virginia for the second time this season when it visits Morgantown Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. ET in a tri-meet with Texas Woman's at the WVU Coliseum.

COPPERWHEAT NAMED EAGL CO-GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
- In Sunday's quad meet against N.C. State, West Virginia, and Alaska, Pitt freshman, Hallie Copperwheat, earned the third highest all-around score in program history – 39.500. She secured four individual titles during the meet – T-1st Vault (9.825), T-1st Bars (9.875), Beam (9.925), All-Around (39.500), and earned career highs on every event.
- This marked Copperwheat's second weekly conference award, as she was awarded Co-Rookie of the Week following the team's season opener on Jan. 16.
- She shared the honor with graduate student Deja Chambliss from George Washington and is the second freshman in program history to earn this accolade (Alicia Talucci, 2009).
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt earned a season-high 195.800, placing second of four teams in a quad meet at the Fitzgerald Field House last Sunday.
- Copperwheat dominated in the all-around, finishing with a 39.500 – the third-highest AA score in Pitt history. She also secured four individual titles placing first in every event but floor.
- Freshman Jordyn Ewing earned a career-high 9.875 on floor, while senior Katie Chamberlain earned a new career-high 9.875 on bars.
- Junior Erin Hutchison scored a 9.725 or higher on both of her events, earning her third consecutive floor score of a 9.825 or higher.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
- The Mountaineers (5-3, 0-2 Big 12) recorded a season-high 195.925 to secure first at Pitt's quad meet last Sunday. The team also secured season-highs on beam and bars.
- West Virginia currently ranks No. 13 on floor, dropping after being in the Top 10 for three consecutive weeks. They have a national average of 49.269.
- Sunday will be the 88th meeting between the Mountaineers and Pitt. West Virginia currently holds a 4-21-1 lead over the Panthers when competing in Morgantown. This is the second of three meetings between the two teams during the 2022 season.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
- The Texas Woman's Pioneers (2-5, 0-0 MIC) posted a season-high 194.775 in their last meet against Oklahoma.
- Earlier this season, the Panthers faced the Pioneers at Denton where they found great success, earning a 195.575 and breaking the school's beam record with a 49.200.
- Friday's meet will be the 7th meeting between TWU and Pitt and the second of the season. TWU currently holds a 1-2 lead when competing in a neutral location.

- The Panthers will travel to College Park, Md. for a tri-meet with Maryland and Minnesota, Monday, Feb. 14 at 3 p.m. ET.
