
Pitt Set To Square Off With Loyola (MD) Wednesday Night At The Pete

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (5-3, 0-0 ACC) will be looking to get back to their winning ways Wednesday evening as they return to the Petersen Events Center to take on the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds. First tip is set for 6:00 pm and the game will air live on the ACC Network Extra.

- Sophomore Maliyah Johnson has continued to grow into an impact player for Pitt early on this season. She ranks 2nd on the team in scoring (9.9 ppg) while grabbing 3.8 rebounds per game and shooting 47.6% from the floor. At the Fort Myers Tip-Off, Johnson averaged a team-high 10.0 points while earning All-Tournament Team honors for her play.
- Junior forward Liatu King is enjoying a great start to her season as she is leading Pitt in scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebounding (9.5 rpg) while shooting 50% from the floor. King currently ranks 4th in the ACC in rebounding as she has four games this season with 10+ rebounds after doing that just six times all last season.
- The Panthers return home Wednesday night as they welcome Loyola (MD) to the Petersen Events Center. Wednesday's game will tip at 6pm on ACC Network Extra.
- Early on this season, the Panthers have shown major improvement in their shooting from deep and overall from the floor. The Panthers are shooting 41.9% from the floor and 35.5% from deep after closing out last season shooting 37.3% from the floor and 29.2% from deep. Aislin Malcolm is shooting a team-high 47.8% from deep while Amber Brown and King are shooting 50% from the floor.
- This meeting marks the eighth between the two squads in the all-time series.
- Pitt has won all seven of the previous meetings by an average of 18.7 points per game.
- The Panthers are 5-0 all-time at home against the Greyhounds.
- The last meeting between the two teams came on Nov. 21, 2016 in Pittsburgh. The Panthers won the game 74-44.
- The Panthers returned home Wednesday night for the ACC/B1G Challenge as they welcomed the Illinois Fighting Illini to the Pete. The Illini came out firing in the opening half and the Panthers couldn't respond as they fell 92-71.
- Illinois finished the game going 14-for-24 from behind the arc while also owning the 36-22 edge in rebounding and 36-26 lead in paint scoring.
- Dayshanette Harris led a group of three Panthers in double figures as she netted 16 points and two steals. Liatu King finished with 11 points and seven rebounds while Amber Brown had 10 points and four rebounds in the loss.
- The Panthers finished the game shooting 45.5% from the floor, 44.4% from three-point range and 92.9% from the free throw line in a losing effort.
- The Panthers brought in their highest ranked recruiting class since Coach White took over the program this year. The three freshmen all bring a winning mentality to the Panthers' squad.
- All three freshmen have earned playing time for the Panthers early on and have seized the opportunity.
- Local standout Aislin Malcolm has made her presence felt early on this season as she is leading the freshmen group in scoring, averaging 5.6 points per game while connecting on 11 three-pointers and leading the team in three-point field goal percentage (47.8%).
- Avery Strickland has appeared in all eight games so far this season and is averaging 5.1 points while connecting on eight triples of her own across 16.0 minutes per game.
- Marley Washenitz has appeared in seven games and is averaging 3.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 36.4% from the floor. She has also chipped in with six steals defensively.
- The Panthers return home Sunday as they welcome Ball State to the Petersen Events Center for a 12:00 pm tip. Sunday's game will air on the ACC Network.
- Sunday's game will also be the Panthers' 2nd Annual ASL Deaf Awareness Game. Special Pitt American Sign Language shirts will be given out to the first 500 fans in attendance.
- There will be special in-game content to raise awareness for the deaf community including junior Liatu King who grew up in a quiet household as both her parents are deaf.
