Panthers Fall In ACC Opener To Louisville Sunday, 77-53

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (6-5, 0-1 ACC) fell in their ACC opener Sunday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center to the Louisville Cardinals, 77-53.
Junior Taisha Exanor led the Panthers in scoring in the loss as she finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three steals in 16 minutes of work off the bench. Exanor went 6-for-7 from the floor while netting 10 of her 12 points in the fourth quarter. Dayshanette Harris finished with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes while Gabby Hutcherson came off the bench and netted nine points and four rebounds in the loss.

FIRST QUARTER
- The two teams started slow on Sunday as the Cardinals got out to the 8-3 lead at the media timeout as Dayshanette Harris had all three Pitt points at the free throw line.
- Louisville came out of the media timeout with eight straight points to force Pitt into a timeout leading 16-3.
- After the timeout, the Panthers found their offense as Gabby Hutcherson knocked down a jumper and Marley Washenitz had a steal and layup.
- After a pair of Harris free throws, Aislin Malcolm came off the bench and drained a triple at the buzzer to send Pitt to the second quarter trailing 19-12.
- The Cardinals were able to push their lead out to 25-14 early in the second quarter before Washenitz got free and knocked down her first triple of the game to send it to the media timeout with Louisville up 25-17.
- Louisville came out strong over the final four minutes as they ended the quarter on a 14-2 run which was capped with a Hailey Van Lith triple at the buzzer.
- Pitt scored just seven points in the second quarter as they were held to 23% shooting and four turnovers while the Cardinals shot 56% from the floor in the quarter.
- The Cardinals came out of the locker room with the first six points before Harris ended the run with a pair of free throws.
- Hutcherson then came off the bench and knocked down a jumper and a three-pointer to send the game to the third quarter media timeout with Pitt trailing 53-26.
- Harris and Malcolm closed out the scoring in the third for the Panthers with a pair of triples but Louisville hit another buzzer-beating three to take the 64-34 lead into the final quarter.
- Taisha Exanor came off the bench and provided Pitt with a spark to start the final quarter as she netted six straight points off of assists by Amber Brown to cut the Louisville lead to 68-40.
- Washenitz and Avery Strickland finished off layups to send the game to the final media timeout with Pitt trailing 73-44.
- Pitt closed out the game strong as Exanor finished off a pair of layups in transition and Strickland made a contested layup as Pitt fell to Louisville 77-55.
- Exanor had a great final quarter for Pitt as she netted 10 of the Panthers' 19 in the quarter as the home team outscored the Cardinals 19-13 across the final 10 minutes.
- Louisville shot 54.7% from the floor and 58.3% from behind the arc in the win while Pitt shot just 33.9% from the floor and 26.3% from deep.
- The Cardinals owned the 41-26 edge in rebounds but Pitt outscored Louisville 6-2 in second chance points.
- Louisville turned the ball over 20 times while Pitt committed 15 turnovers in the loss.
- The Cardinals held the 32-22 advantage in points in the paint while the Pitt bench outscored Louisville 31-24 in the loss.
- Pitt closes out their non-conference slate Wednesday, Dec. 21 at noon as they welcome North Alabama to the Petersen Events Center.
