Pitt Swimming to Compete at Minnesota Invite

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men's and women's swimming teams will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete against top talent at the Minnesota Invite, hosted by University of Minnesota Recreation and Wellness.
The meet opens Wednesday, Nov. 30 and runs through Saturday, Dec 3. Each day of the four-day meet, preliminary rounds begin at 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. CT) with finals set for 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT).

The Pitt swimming program returns to the pool to face off against seven schools at the invite: Arizona, California, Harvard, Minnesota, Texas, UNLV and Wisconsin. The invite marks just the second time the Panthers will meet Arizona and Texas, swimming against the two programs during the 2012 Winter Nationals. This will be the first meeting between Pitt and the other five schools.
The Panthers are coming off a successful meet that saw both the men's and women's programs defeat defending Atlantic-10 Champions, George Washington. The men's team won 15 of 19 events to defeat George Washington, 241-113, while the women's team took 16 of 19 events to defeat George Washington 241-112.
For the women, the Panthers started the meet off strong with the 400-yard medley relay teams claiming first and second-place finishes. The relay team of Claire Jansen, Tatum Detwiler, Kate Bailey and Sophie Yendell finished first with the time of 3:47.66. Holly Pringle, Angelina Messina, Olivia Yoo and Janelle Schulz came in second with the time of 3:51.44.
Freshman Kate Bailey recorded two individual first-place finishes of the meet in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.44) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.64).
The men also had 400-yard medley relay teams claim first and second-place finishes. The relay team of Marcin Goraj, Cooper Van der Laan, Adam Mahler and Flynn Crisci finished first with the time of 3:15.48. Krzysztof Radziszewski, Jerry Chen, Drew Jalbert and Dominic Toledo came in second with the time of 3:17.52.
