
Pitt Tops Northwestern 87-58 in ACC/B1G Challenge

EVANSTON, IL – Five Panthers scored in double figures as Pitt posted its top offensive performance of the season in an 87-58 rout over Northwestern in the ACC/B1G Challenge at Welsh-Ryan Center Monday night.
The Panthers extended their win streak to four-straight games after recording a season-high 14 three-point field goals and shooting 63.6 percent from beyond the arc. Pitt did an excellent job distributing the ball, recording a season-high 22 assists on 26 field goals.
Blake Hinson led the way with 22 points, including recording four threes, with eight rebounds and five assists. Two other Panthers scored season highs, Greg Elliot (18) and Nelly Cummings (17) while Jamarius Burton added 14 points and Nike Sibande came off the bench and contributed 11 points by knocking down three baskets from three-point range and a pair of free throws.
Pitt used an 11-0 run to take control of a back-and-forth first half and go up 27-16 with just under five minutes left before the break. Hinson knocked down a three to break the 16-16 tie and drew a foul the next play. Cummings contributed with a pair of threes to give the Panthers the lead.
The Panthers' maintained their momentum in the second half with another 11-0 run early to grab a 21-point lead with 16:19 left to play.
Pitt held Northwestern to a 37.9 shooting percentage in the second half and outscored the Wildcats 50-30.
SHARP SHOOTERS
Pitt went a season-best 14-of-22 (.636) from three-point range with Blake Hinson (4-of-5), Greg Elliott (3-of-4), Nike Sibande (3-of-6) and Nelly Cummings (3-of-4) combined to go 13-of-19 from beyond the arc. The Panthers shot over 60 percent from three-point range for the first time since Jan. 4, 2017.
