Panthers Pick Up ACC Win Over NC State, 68-60

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Pitt men's basketball team extended their win streak to five games with a 68-60 victory of NC State to open conference play Friday night at PNC Arena.
Jamarius Burton recorded his eighth-straight double-digit performance, scoring a career-best 24 points to go along with four rebounds and four steals. Blake Hinson scored 13 points with eight rebounds, while Nike Sibande came off the bench and posted 10 points for his third-straight double-digit performance.
The Panthers stayed on pace with the Wolfpack throughout the first half, as each team did not gain a lead of more than three points over 18 minutes. Pitt ended the first half on 6-0 run in the final two minutes to take a 33-28 lead heading into intermission.
Pitt held the high-scoring NC State attack to 28 points on 29.4 percent (10-of-34) shooting in the opening half
Burton powered the Panthers offense in the second half, leading the way with 16 points. Pitt held its lead after the half, including going on a 12-4 run in the opening four minutes. The Wolfpack cut the deficit to four points before Elliott knocked down a three-point field goal to spark another scoring run and extend the Panthers lead by 12 points.
The Panthers held NC State to a season-low 60 points and limited the opposition to 6-of-27 (.222) shooting from three-point range. NC State entered the contest averaging 83 points per game.
Road Warriors
The Panthers improved to 2-0 on the road and have won their first two road games of the season for the first time since 2013-14. The Panthers defeated NC State, 74-62, and Georgia Tech, 81-74.

Greg Elliott contributed defensively, grabbing a career-high nine defensive boards.
