PITTSBURGH – Pitt baseball released its 2023 schedule Thursday, as announced by fifth-year head coach Mike Bell. The 55-game regular season slate includes 24 home games, with 22 played at Charles Cost Field and two others against West Virginia and Penn State to be featured at PNC Park. The Panthers are set to take on 12 top-100 ratings percentage index (RPI) teams and eight NCAA Tournament qualifiers from the 2022 season.
"This schedule will prepare and challenge us in many ways," Bell said. "Competing on the road early should allow us to grow as a team. Competing against top-ranked opponents should prepare us to compete on a national stage. Our league and rival matchups are as strong as they ever have been. These both will create great experiences and memories for our student-athletes this upcoming season."
Flex season ticket packages are now on sale for $70. Purchase tickets here. In each package, fans receive a total of 22 tickets, which can be used for any game at Charles L. Cost Field (note: admission to doubleheaders requires a single ticket). Tickets can be used traditionally (one ticket for each game) or in any combination (multiple tickets at specific games). Benefits of the flex season ticket package include:
• Saving money, opposed to buying each game separately.
• All tickets are delivered through mobile delivery. Tickets will be sent out approximately two weeks prior to the home opener.
• Exclusive experience for flex season ticket holders (to be announced later).
For the two games at PNC Park, tickets can be found here (Tickets will be released at a later date).
Single game tickets will be released at a later date.
Pitt will play 15 of its first 16 games in the state of Florida, including 12 non-conference matchups. The Panthers open the season with a three-game set against Maine (Feb. 17-19) in Sarasota then head to Port Charlotte for a four-game series against Harvard (Feb. 24-26) the following weekend. Pitt's five other non-conference games in the Sunshine State include matchups against Mount St. Mary's (March 3-4) and Stetson (March 4-5) in DeLand and a midweek game at South Florida (March 7) in Tampa.
The Panthers have set their home opener for Tuesday, Feb. 28, welcoming Bucknell for a 3 p.m. contest. Pitt's other midweek non-conference contests at Charles Cost Field include Youngstown State (March 15), Kent State (March 22) and West Virginia (May 10). The Panthers will also welcome the Mountaineers to PNC Park on Wednesday, April 19, and close out their home schedule at the Best Ballpark in America on May 16 against Penn State.
Pitt is slated to take on eight of the ACC's nine NCAA Tournament qualifiers from the 2022 season. All five ACC home series come against teams that made the tournament field last season, beginning with a set against North Carolina (March 17-19). Pitt will also play host to Super Regional qualifier Virginia Tech (March 24-26), College World Series qualifier Notre Dame (April 6-8), Wake Forest (April 21-23) and Miami (May 12-14).
Three of the Panthers' five conference road series will feature NCAA Tournament qualifiers from a year ago, starting with a three-game set at Florida State (March 10-12). Pitt will visit Duke (March 31-April 2) before meeting NCAA Tournament qualifiers Virginia (April 14-16) and Georgia Tech (May 5-7). The Panthers will close out the regular season at NC State (May 18-20).
Pitt will play host to Pac-12 Conference foe California (April 28-30) for a three-game set at Charles Cost Field during its ACC bye week.
The Panthers' 2023 schedule is rounded out with four non-conference midweek road games as Pitt visits Penn State (March 28), Youngstown State (April 4), Kent State (April 11), and West Virginia (May 3).
The ACC Baseball Championship will return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C., in 2023. The 12-team tournament will be held next May 23-28.
The Panthers posted 29 victories in 2022 and reached the semifinals of the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2018 by upsetting 7-seed Georgia Tech (12-6) and 2-seed Louisville (6-5) last season. The 29 wins were Pitt's most in a single season since 2018 (29) and tied for the most in a season since joining the ACC in 2014.
Pitt's 2023 roster features 17 returners from last year's squad as well as 11 freshmen and 13 transfers.
