PITTSBURGH – No. 7 Pitt (20-2, 10-0 ACC) bring the longest active road winning streak in the nation with them for a pair of ACC matches at Wake Forest (12-9, 4-6 ACC) and Virginia Tech (9-12, 2-8 ACC). The Panthers have won 11 straight road matches dating back to last season and are 5-0 in road ACC matches this year. Overall, Pitt has won 13 matches in a row, the fourth longest active streak in the country, and the longest among Power 5 schools.
The Panthers earned their highest ranked win in program history in their last match, defeating No. 2 Louisville in five sets. Courtney Buzzerio delivered a season-best 22 kills on .302 hitting, earning herself Conference Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row and third time this season. Buzzerio has now tied Kayla Lund for the most ACC Player of the Week awards in a single season.
Pitt also swept Notre Dame last Friday, extending the winning streak at home over unranked ACC Opponents to 40 matches. The Panthers are the first time in the Power 5 to reach 20 wins this season and lead Division I with 129 victories since the start of the 2018 campaign.
SO GOOD IT'S BIZARRE-IO
Graduate transfer Courtney Buzzerio is on an All-American pace in her lone year at Pitt. She leads the team with 288 kills this season, doing so on .343 hitting. She owns the highest hitting percentage in the nation by a pin hitter with 600 or more attacks.
Buzzerio leads all ACC pin hitters in hitting percentage and is 11th overall. She has 259 more attempts than the next closest player in the ACC hitting % Top 10. She became the first student-athlete in the conference to earn ACC Player of the Week three times this season, passing Georgia Tech's Julia Bergmann for the most awards this season. She joins Kayla Lund as the only Panther to have won ACC Player of the Week three times in the same season after Lund did so back in 2018.
Buzzerio has now made at least 3.25 kills/set in 14 straight matches. She has made 10+ kills while hitting at least .300 in each of her last nine matches - the longest active streak in Division I. She is one of six Panthers in the Dan Fisher era to collect multiple matches of 5+ kills/set and .400+ hitting in the same season - Lund (2020-21), Williams (2017/16), Markovic (2017), Kullerkann (2015) and Wynn (2013).
