PITTSBURGH – For the second time this season, graduate senior Courtney Buzzerio has been named ACC Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Buzzerio led the No. 8 Panthers to a perfect weekend, making 4.67 kills/set on .407 hitting and 1.33 blocks/set as Pitt swept both Miami and Florida State.
Her 16 kills (5.33 kills/set) against Florida State was the most kills/set in a single match by any Panther since Kayla Lund in the 2020 fall season. She did so on .444 hitting, joining Lund (2020-21), Stephanie Williams (2017/16), Nika Markovic (2017), Kadi Kullerkann (2015) and Jessica Wynn (2013) as the only Panthers in the Dan Fisher era to collect multiple matches of 5+ kills/set and .400+ hitting in the same season.
The Chino Hills Calif. native has now led Pitt in kills for 12 consecutive matches, making at least 3.25 kills/set in every match, tied for the longest such streak of her career. She is hitting .348 this season with 255 kills on 543 total attacks – the highest hitting percentage in the nation by a pin hitter with 500 or more attacks.
The Panthers have won 11 matches in a row, the fourth longest active winning streak in the country. This is the sixth season in a row that Pitt has had a winning streak of at least 10 matches.
Buzzerio becomes the first Panther to earn the award twice this season and gives Pitt an ACC Player of the Week in four of last five weeks (Buzzerio (11/19), Serena Gray (11/26) and Valeria Vazquez Gomez (10/10). Pitt is the only program in the ACC to have earned the award more than twice this year.
