PITTSBURGH — Pitt men's and women's swimming & diving claimed first place in every event in the Western Pennsylvania Invitational Friday and Saturday. The invite was the last of the season at Trees Pool and served as a key meet as ACC Championships approach next month (Feb. 15-19).
Senior Day was held in the last day of the invite. Four divers (Wesley Ahart, Serena Buchwald, Josh Parquet, and Amy Read) and nine swimmers (Serhii Ahadzhanian, Alyssa Conley, Dakota Elliott, Kayla Graham, Stephen Hopta, Madison Nalls, Quinton Pierce, Jilian Schulte, and Jacqueline Tinneny) were honored in a ceremony between the diving and swimming portions of the day with Pitt head coach John Hargis, diving head coach Katie Kasprzak and sport administrator/Executive Associate Athletic Director Wendy Meyers.
"This weekend is always about our seniors," said Hargis. "It's always a special weekend when we can race fast and recognize this special group. Every class leaves something special, and this class is no exception. Just so proud of this group and all they've done for Pitt swimming and diving."
"It was a great send off for our seniors," said Kasprzak. "They have been integral in building the team culture and success we see today, so it was great to have so much energy in this meet. It's always fun and rewarding to see them perform in their last home meet, so for Amy to break her record and get so close to the springboard records was really exciting. I'm just so thankful for the opportunity to coach these four divers over their collegiate career."
"I'm excited to finish final prep for ACC's. We are in a good place confidence wise, and it should be a great finish to the season."
