Washington Named EAGL Rookie of the Week

PITTSBURGH—Pitt freshman Sidney Washington has been named East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week, as announced Wednesday.
In last Saturday's dual meet at Texas Woman's University, Washington earned a 9.750 or higher on all four events, combining to take home the all-around title with a score of 39.250 – the highest for the Panthers this season.
The Ann Arbor, Mich. native earned a 9.850 on floor and a 9.800 or higher on beam for the second consecutive meet, contributing to the team's program-high beam score of 49.200. Washington earned a podium finish in every event against the Pioneers (AA – 1st, Bars – 2nd, Bars, Vault, Floor – T-2nd).
Washington's title marks the second conference award for the Panthers, joining freshman Hallie Copperwheat who earned the Co-Rookie of the Week title following the season opening tri-meet vs. LIU and Maryland.
Up next, the Panthers will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a tri-meet with fellow EAGL members, North Carolina and Towson, Friday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. ET.
