Panthers Welcome #19 Notre Dame To The Pete Sunday

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (10-8, 1-6 ACC) looks for some revenge on Sunday afternoon as they welcome the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the Petersen Events Center for a 2:00 pm tip on ACC Network Extra. The two teams met earlier this season with Notre Dame earning the 85-59 victory in South Bend.

- Girl Scouts Day – Pitt will welcome Girl Scout troops from the area to the game. In-game entertainment will be geared around the groups in attendance.
- Chalk Talk – One of the Pitt assistant coaches will break down the Irish 45 minutes prior to tip. The Chalk Talk will take place in the IC Light Baseline Club and popcorn and drinks will be provided to those in attendance.

- This meeting marks the 36th between the two teams with Notre Dame owning the 31-4 lead in
- The Fighting Irish have won 14 of the last 15 games against Pitt including an 85-59 victory earlier this season.
- Notre Dame is 15-2 in games in Pittsburgh.
- Notre Dame enters Sunday's game with a 13-4 overall record and a 4-2 ACC mark. The Irish are coming off of a 73-71 loss at Boston College Thursday.
- The Fighting Irish are led offensively by Maddy Westbeld who is averaging 12.8 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 51.1% from the floor.
- Second year player Olivia Miles is enjoying a great season as she is second on the team in scoring (12.4 ppg) while also adding a team-high 7.8 apg, 6.4 rpg and 2.0 spg while starting all 17 games.
- Maya Dodson is averaging 11.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks while Dara Mabrey is chipping in with 11.5 points and 2.9 assists while netting a team-best 41 triples.
- As a team, ND is averaging 76.5 points per game while allowing 62.3 ppg.
- This marks the second meeting of the season between the Panthers and the Fighting Irish with Notre Dame collecting the 85-59 home victory over the Panthers on Dec. 19, 2021.
- The Irish took the 18-point lead into halftime and put the game away in the third quarter as they outscored Pitt 31-19. The 31-point quarter marked the most points allowed in a quarter by Pitt this year.
- The Panthers struggled with turnovers as they coughed the ball up 27 times which turned into 35 points for Notre Dame in the win.
- Pitt had four players score in double figures, Jayla Everett (11), Amber Brown (10), Liatu King (10) and Taisha Exanor (10).
- The Irish were led offensively by Olivia Miles who netted 21 points, 11 assists, six rebounds and six assists in the win.
- The Panthers have continued to put an emphasis on rebounding the basketball and it has paid off in a major way. Pitt currently ranks 11th in the NCAA in rebounds per game (44.4) and 7th in total rebounds (800). The Panthers have recorded at least 35 rebounds in 18 straight games to start the season, a new program record.
- Pitt has been able to get to the free throw line at a high rate as they rank 3rd in the NCAA in free throw attempts (389) while ranking 17th in free throws made (248). Junior Amber Brown leads the ACC and ranks 20th in the NCAA in free throw attempts (98).
- The Panthers welcome Notre Dame to the Petersen Events Center Sunday at 2pm on ACC Network Extra.
- With her third point on Thursday, junior Dayshanette Harris became the quickest player in program history (60 games) to record at least 700 points, 250 rebounds and 175 assists.
- For the second time this season, Pitt had a pair of players score at least 20 points in the same game as Harris finished with 22 points and Jayla Everett netted 20 points. It marked the second time Harris and Everett scored 20+ points in the same game, both coming at Virginia Tech.
- The Panthers made a strong comeback attempt on the road against Virginia Tech Thursday night as they trailed by as many as 21 and cut the deficit to four in the final quarter. Pitt ultimately fell 75-65 to the Hokies.
- The duo of Dayshanette Harris (22) and Jayla Everett (20) combined to net 42 points in the loss. It marked their first game this season with both scoring at least 20 points and second all-time (last season vs. VT).
- The Pitt defense held the Hokies to just two field goals from 1:35 left in the third quarter to 1:22 left in the final quarter (10:12 stretch). Overall Pitt held VT to 40.4% shooting in the loss.
- Pitt won the rebounding battle 40-38 and turned the ball over just 11 times, marking their second straight game with 12 or less turnovers.
- So far this season, Pitt is holding opponents to just 35.9% from the floor.
- Pitt ranks sixth in the ACC and 38th in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense this season.
- The Panthers have held all 18 opponents this season to under 45% shooting from the floor. It marks the first time in program history they have opened the season with 18 straight games holding opponents under 45% shooting.
- Pitt is one of four Power 5 teams this season that have held all 18 opponents to under 45% shooting this season. The others are Tennessee (#1 FG% defense), Georgia Tech (#2 FG% defense) and South Carolina (#5 FG% defense).
- The Panthers have held four opponents to 30% or less shooting from the floor this season. It marks the most such games since 2017-18 when Pitt held four opponents to less than 30% from the floor in 30 games played.
- Pitt has held 12 of 18 opponents to less than 40% from the floor, the most through 18 games since 2017-18 (14 of 18 opponents).
- Junior guard Dayshanette Harris has made a big impact after returning to the Pitt lineup after being sidelined for the final four games last season and the first two games this season due to a knee injury.
- Through 15 games (limited minutes in first eight) this season, Harris is averaging 23.2 mpg, 10.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 2.8 apg while shooting 37.2% from the floor and 72.1% from the free throw line.
- Last time out, Harris led the Panthers in scoring for the fourth straight game as she netted a season-high 22 points, five rebounds and three assists at Virginia Tech.
- She now has nine career games with 20+ points including two against the Hokies.
- Over her last four games, Harris is averaging 16.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 41.7% from three-point range and 72.7% from the free throw line.
- She has recorded multiple assists in 11 of her 14 games while leading the Panthers in helpers seven times this season. She has notched 26 assists over her last seven games for the Panthers.
- Harris made a big impact for Pitt at the Paradise Jam as she earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 17.0 ppg and 2.5 rpg across two games off the bench.
- Harris surpassed the 600 career point plateau earlier this year. She is the fastest Pitt player to 600 career points (49 games) since assistant coach Brianna Kiesel netted her 600th career point in her 44th career game.
- Harris became the fastest player in program history (60 games) to notch 700 career points, 250 career rebounds and 175 career assists. Assistant coach Brianna Kiesel did the feat in her 61st career game while Shavonte Zellous did it in 66 career games as a Panther.
- Pitt returns to the road for their next two games as they play at Clemson Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 pm on ACC Network Extra and at Syracuse on Sunday, Jan. 30 at 12:00 pm on ACC Network.
