Panthers Play Host To Wake Forest Sunday Afternoon

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team (9-7, 0-5 ACC) wraps up a three-game homestand on Sunday afternoon as they welcome the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to the Petersen Events Center for a 2:00 pm tip. Sunday's game will air on ACC Network Extra.

- Heat The Pete: Pitt branded winter gloves will be given out to fans in attendance (while supplies last). There will also be $1 hot chocolate available at the concession stands inside the Petersen Events Center.

- This marks the 12th meeting off all-time between the two programs with Wake Forest holding the 7-4 lead in the series.
- The Panthers have won two of the last three in the series but the Demon Deacons won the meeting last year, 64-61 in overtime.
- The Demon Deacons are 3-1 all-time in games played in Pittsburgh.
- Wake Forest enters Sunday's game with a 12-5 overall record and a 2-4 ACC mark as they fell on Thursday to Notre Dame, 74-64.
- The Demon Deacons are led offensively by Jewel Spear who leads the ACC in scoring (19.6 ppg). The sophomore is also averaging 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists while connecting on an ACC-high 54 three-pointers and shooting 38.8% from deep.
- Olivia Summiel is enjoying a nice season so far as she is averaging 7.0 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds while Elise Williams is averaging 8.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and a team-high 3.4 assists.
- As a team, the Demon Deacons are averaging 67.8 ppg while allowing 58.2 ppg. They are grabbing 40.8 rpg while allowing their opponents to grab just 34.3 rpg.
- The Panthers have continued to put an emphasis on rebounding the basketball and it has paid off in a major way. Pitt currently ranks 10th in the NCAA in rebounds per game (44.8) and 7th in total rebounds (717). The Panthers have recorded at least 35 rebounds in 16 straight games to start the season, a new program record.
- Pitt has been able to get to the free throw line at a high rate as they rank 4th in the NCAA in free throw attempts (352) while ranking 21st in free throws made (222). Junior Amber Brown leads the ACC and ranks 21st in the NCAA in free throw attempts (88).
- The Panthers wrap up a three-game homestand Sunday afternoon as they welcome Wake Forest for a 2pm tip on ACC Network Extra.
- Junior Dayshanette Harris seems to be back to full strength as she netted a team-high 15 points, six rebounds and two assists last time out against Boston College. On the year, she is averaging 21.9 minutes, 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 73.5% from the line.
- The Panthers defense was able to force Boston College into 20 turnovers last time out while also posting 23 points off of turnovers, their highest total since Nov. 17, 2021 when they scored 36 against LIU.
- The Panthers had a poor second quarter for the second straight game as they were outscored 17-9 in the 75-64 loss to Boston College.
- Pitt had three players score in double figures led by Dayshanette Harris who netted 15 points, six rebounds and two assists. Jayla Everett came off the bench and netted 11 points while Amber Brown contributed 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.
- The Panthers held the nation's best shooting team to just 44.4% from the floor, 5% lower than their season average, but turned the ball over 23 times in the defeat.
- Junior guard Dayshanette Harris has made a big impact after returning to the Pitt lineup after being sidelined for the final four games last season and the first two games this season due to a knee injury.
- Through 13 games (limited minutes in first eight) this season, Harris is averaging 21.9 mpg, 9.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 2.5 apg while shooting 39.4% from the floor and 73.5% from the free throw line.
- Last time out, Harris started her fourth straight game and finished with a team-high 15 points, six rebounds and two assists.
- Over her last two games, Harris is averaging 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 45.5% from the floor and 80% from the free throw line.
- She has recorded multiple assists in nine of her 13 games while leading the Panthers in helpers six times this season. She has notched 16 assists over her last five games for the Panthers.
- Harris made a big impact for Pitt at the Paradise Jam as she led the team in scoring in both of the games she played as she earned All-Tournament Team honors after averaging 17.0 ppg and 2.5 rpg across two games off the bench.
- Harris surpassed the 600 career point plateau earlier this year. She is the fastest Pitt player to 600 career points (49 games) since assistant coach Brianna Kiesel netted her 600th career point in her 44th career game.
- She is 17 points shy of 700 for her career.
- Pitt hits the road as they head to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech Thursday, Jan. 20 at 6:00 pm on ACC Network.
