No. 20 Pitt Shuts Out Towson 2-0 on Senior Day

PITTSBURGH — No. 20 Pitt women's soccer's (7-1-0) closed out nonconference play with a 2-0 shutout of Towson (4-2-2) on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Sarah Schupansky scored both goals in the second half for her second collegiate brace (two in the 5-0 win over Cleveland State, Aug. 26).
Seniors Celia Lopez, Kate McKay and Katherine Robinson were honored with a pregame ceremony.
Schupansky converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute, her team-leading sixth goal of the year. She drew the attempt after taking a pass from Athalie Palomo from the left side of the box and was tripped after making a move past a defender.
Pitt opens ACC play at RV Clemson next Thursday at 8 pm, which is slated for an ACC Network broadcast.

- Katherine Robinson (5-1) made four saves, two in each half, for her second shutout.
- Pitt produced its sixth shutout victory with a goals aggregate of 25-0.
- Just eight games into the season, Pitt set the school record for assists (35) in a single-season in program history, topping the previous mark of 34 by the 1998 team.
- The current squad also now has third-most points (91) and tied for the fourth-most goals (28) third-most shutouts.
- The Panthers finished with the advantages in shots (28-16), shots on goal (7-4), corner kicks (8-3) and possession total (56%).
- Schupansky finished with a game-high and career-high nine shots.
