
No. 4 Pitt Sweeps High Point to Open Panther Challenge

PITTSBURGH – The No. 4 Pitt volleyball team (6-0, 0-0 ACC) swept High Point (5-3, 0-0 Big South) to open the Panther Challenge at Fitzgerald Field House Friday morning.
The Panthers defeated the Panthers by scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-23.
Right side hitter Chinaza Ndee led Pitt with 12 kills on .500 hitting. Outside Kayla Lund and middle blocker Chiamaka Nwokolo contributed seven kills apiece.
Setter Kylee Levers led Pitt with 23 assists, and libero Ashley Browske picked up a season-high 16 digs. Middle blocker Sabrina Starks had a team-best three blocks.
In total, Pitt led High Point in kills (44-26), assists (42-35), service aces (7-2) and digs (43-31) while out-hitting the Panthers (.333 to .263). HPU had more blocks (7.0-4.0).
SET ONE: No. 4 Pitt 25, High Point 17
Despite some early resistance from High Point, including seven ties and for lead changes, Pitt pulled ahead using a 4-0 run to gain a 15-12 lead that they would not surrender. The Panthers extended their lead to 23-16 following a 6-1 surge, and closed the door with a 25-17 win in the first set. Pitt out-hit High Point, .290-.219.
SET TWO: No. 4 Pitt 25, High Point 17
Despite a 6-2 deficit to start the frame, Pitt use a 4-1 run to cut the margin to one (down 7-6) then later used six unanswered points to gain a lead of 13-10. The Panthers pushed their lead to 17-12 after a 4-1 run, and ultimately finished the frame on a 4-0 run to earn a 2-0 lead in the match. Pitt hit. 423 for the stanza.
SET THREE: No. 4 Pitt 25, High Point 23
High Point didn't go quietly. Following a 6-1 run that resulted in a 20-18 Pitt lead, HPU tied the set at 23. A kill by Jordan Lockwood gave Pitt match point, and Leketor Member-Meneh sealed the sweep with an ace.

No. 4 Pitt will continue competition at the Panther Challenge with its second match of the day against No. 12 BYU Friday at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House. The match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra and tickets are available through PittsburghPanthers.com.
