Four Panthers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

PITTSBURGH – Four Pitt softball players were named to the All-ACC Academic Team Monday morning, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Senior and recent graduate Morgan Batesole, freshman Cami Compson, junior Sarah Seamans and sophomore EC Taylor were recognized. The four players tied for the most academic honors in a single-season (2015). All four players earned the academic honor for the first time in their careers'.
Batesole, who received her bachelor's degree in marketing this spring, finished with a 3.06 cumulative GPA. The Walnut Creek, Calif., native was a four-year letter winner for the Panthers, starting in 110 of 142 games played. Batesole finished her career batting .240 with 24 extra base hits, including 13 doubles and seven homers. She had a career year this past season, recording career-highs in batting average (.252), runs (20), hits (33), doubles (7), triples (3), home runs (4), slugging percentage (.443) and walks (13). She had a career-best 73 assists primarily at shortstop. She was named ACC Co-Player of the Week Feb. 26.
As a freshman in 2021, Compson finished at the top in power numbers among all newcomers in the conference. The Westerville, Ohio, product hit a team-best .325 in 126 at-bats, totaling 41 hits and 11 homers. She registered five doubles, 29 RBI and led the Panthers with a 1.033 OPS and .647 slugging percentage. Her home run count tied for seventh in the ACC and was second among all freshmen hitters.
Compson displayed her power Feb. 26 against Mercer, going 4-for-4 with six RBI and a homer, becoming the first Panther since Shelby Pickett (Mar. 30, 2016) to record six RBI in a single-game. She was named NFCA Mid-Atlantic Second Team All-Region, All-ACC Third Team and All-ACC Freshman Team. She finished her freshman year with a 3.61 cumulative GPA.
Compson formed a powerful duo with Seamans, who broke out with a career year at the plate. Seamans, from New Castle, Pa., was named All-ACC Second Team, finishing fourth in ACC in homers (13), 12th in slugging percentage (.647), T-10th in total bases (86) and 10th in RBI (35). She also started in every game at first base, tallying 282 putouts, good for sixth in the league. She batted .293 in 133 at-bats, totaling 39 hits, six doubles, a triple and a team-best 17 walks. Seamans finished right behind Compson in OPS (1.020) and was second on the squad with a .373 on-base percentage. She was named ACC Player of the Week April 20 and holds a 3.24 cumulative GPA while pursuing a human resources management degree.
Taylor, a transfer for the University of Florida, finished her first semester at Pitt with a 3.67 GPA. The Marion, Ark., native finished the 2021 campaign among the top in stolen bases in the ACC, finishing fourth in the league with 27 and tied for second with .63 a game. Taylor set a new single-game school record vs. Virginia Feb. 21, stealing four bases. Her 27 for the year ranks second in program history for a single-season. She led the Panthers in hits (45) and runs (28) and hit .315 for the year. She hit five doubles, 19 RBI and registered a .357 on-base mark. Taylor ended 2021 recording seven games with two or more stolen bases and tallied 11 multi-hit games, including five with three or more hits.
