GREENSBORO, N.C. – Pitt baseball's third baseman Sky Duff, pitcher Mitch Myers, outfielder Nico Popa and second baseman David Yanni garnered All-ACC Third-Team selections, the league announced Monday. The four All-ACC selections for first-third team are the most in program history.
A member of the 2019 second-team, Popa is the first Panther to earn All-ACC honors twice. The Pittsburgh native ranks tied for ninth in the ACC in stolen bases (12) and leads the team in total bases (87). The senior has maintained at least a .300 batting average (currently at .316) since the first weekend of the season with 54 hits as well as 28 RBIs, 33 runs and a career-best nine homers.
The all-time leader in program history in games played (222), starts (211) and walks (146), Yanni has had his best season as a Panthers in 2021. With 25 of his 35 hits going for extra bases, the redshirt-senior leads the team in slugging percentage (.616), OPS (1.032), homers (12) and walks (30) in addition to 12 doubles. He ranks 53rd in the nation in homers per game (.29) and 83rd in homers and 10th in the ACC in slugging percentage and walks.
Duff has had a breakout campaign in his third year in Pittsburgh. With active 19-game reached base and 11-game hitting streaks, he has been one of the best in the ACC to get on base and ranks fourth in batting average (.365) and fifth in on-base percentage (.462). He has shown plenty of pop as well, placing 10th in the nation in doubles per game (.45) and 17th in total doubles in addition to two homers and 23 walks.
Pitt's No. 1 starter all season, Myers has been very reliant with eight quality starts against ACC teams. The junior has posted a 4-5 record with a 1.21 WHIP, 3.17 ERA, a team-high 78 strikeouts to 21 walks and a .245 opposing batting average. He ranks in the ACC fourth in ERA, sixth in innings pitched (76.2) and ninth in strikeouts. He outdueled ACC Pitcher of the Year Parker Messick in just his second career ACC start, striking out a career-high 13 batters in six shutout innings in a 2-0 win at No. 9 Florida State to earn ACC Pitcher of the Week.
No. 10 seed Pitt begins the ACC Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. at Truist Field with No. 6 North Carolina Tuesday at 7 p.m.
