PITTSBURGH – Three University of Pittsburgh softball players were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams today, as junior Sarah Seamans earned second team honors and freshman Cami Compson and sophomore EC Taylor were named to the third team. In addition, Compson was recognized on the All-Freshman Team.
The three honors is the most for Pitt since 2018 (four). All three players are earning their first All-ACC team recognition.
Seamans swung a powerful bat in 2021, hitting .293 with 13 home runs, six doubles, a triple and 35 RBI. Her home runs ranked fourth in the ACC, while her .647 slugging percentage ranked 12th. She tallied 86 total bases (T-10th in ACC) and her RBI count tied for 10th in the league. She also moved to first base fully as a junior, totaling 282 putouts for sixth in the conference.
The New Castle, Pa., native had a breakout series at home against North Carolina, going 8-for-14 (.571) with eight RBI, three homers, four runs scored and two walks. Her performance aided Pitt to a series sweep of the Tar Heels and earned her ACC Player of the Week honors Apr. 20.
Taylor, who joined Pitt in January after playing her freshman season at the University of Florida, made an immediate impact for the Panthers. Taylor finished the 2021 campaign as one of the fastest players in the ACC, finishing tied for third in stolen bases with 27. The Marion, Ark., native led most of the season in stolen bases before an injury forced her to miss the last series of the year.
Taylor led the Panthers in hits with 45, while hitting .315 with five doubles, a triple, 16 RBI and drew seven walks. She tallied a .357 on-base percentage and scored a team-best 28 runs. Taylor was pivotal in Pitt's second half surge – winning six of eight against UNC and Boston College – hitting .630 (17-for-27) with 12 runs, six RBI two walks and three stolen bases in that span. Taylor's 27 stolen bases tied for second for a single season in program history, joining Ashley Amistade (2011).
Compson turned in an impressive rookie campaign that saw her rank among the top freshmen hitters in the conference. The Westerville, Ohio, product recorded six RBI against Mercer Feb. 26, the most of any Panther in a game this year. She had six games of two or more RBI for the season. Compson had one of Pitt softball's more memorable hits since the team became an official program in 1998, hitting a walk-off two-run home run at home vs. No. 6/9 Florida State May 7. The win over the ranked Seminoles was the highest ranked victory in school history.
Pitt ended the season 16-27 overall and 12-24 in conference play. Season highlights include ranked victories over No. 6/9 Florida State and No. 18/16 Virginia Tech and a six-game winning streak from April 16-23.
