Senior Transfer to Compete for a Fifth Year
PITTSBURGH – Following her recovery from an ACL injury, senior Kailey Gillings will return to the Pitt gymnastics team as a fifth-year student-athlete for the 2022 season, head coach Samantha Snider announced Wednesday.
"Coming back from this injury is not only making me stronger physically, but mentally as well," Gillings said. "Being able to end my career on my own terms is important to me, so getting the opportunity to compete for a fifth year is truly a blessing. I am ready to take on this final year with my Pitt gymnastics family."
A Beach City, Texas, native, Gillings transferred to Pitt from the University of Arkansas during the summer of 2020. Prior to the start of the season, Gillings suffered an ACL injury that prevented her from competing for the entirety of the Panthers' 2021 campaign.
Gillings is currently pursuing a master's degree in elementary education at Pitt. She spent her first three collegiate seasons with the Razorbacks, from 2018-20, and is a 2019 WCGA Scholastic All-American in addition to earning SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll honors.
Arkansas advanced to the NCAA Regional meet in Gillings' first two seasons on the squad, with a Championship meet appearance in 2018. Her junior season in 2020 was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
