Panthers Take Two Against North Carolina

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh softball defeated conference foe North Carolina twice at home Saturday afternoon.
Pitt took game one, 6-5, and game two 6-4.
NEWS & NOTES
After three scoreless innings, North Carolina (12-18, 8-12 ACC) scored first with a RBI single to left from Skyler Brooks. Pitt (13-25, 8-20 ACC) answered in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer from Seamans, and graduate student Walker Barbee added a run with a single to right field, scoring Levesque and giving Pitt a 3-1 advantage.
The Tar Heels scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning and led, 5-3. After a scoreless bottom of the sixth, Pitt entered the bottom of the seventh down two runs. After Taylor singled to shortstop to lead off the inning, Lane hit a game-tying, two-run shot down the left field line. Levesque entered the batter's box with two outs in a 5-5 game and hit a solo homer to right field to win the game for the Panthers. The walk-off homer is the second of the season at home for Pitt.
Seamans finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run and a walk while Levesque went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs.
GAME TWO
Pitt opened up the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second, as Taylor singled through the right side scoring redshirt junior Jada Crittendon. Tar Heel Brittany Pickett put North Carolina on top with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning.
Taylor and the Panthers answered in the bottom of the fourth with four runs, as she again hit a single, this time to left and scoring two runs in junior Hannah Bach and senior Chandler Walter. Freshman Cami Compson broke the 3-3 tie with a two-run homer to right center, her ninth of the year.
North Carolina got within one run (5-4) in the top of the fifth, but Pitt got that run back in the bottom of the sixth as Compson singled right center, scoring Taylor. Redshirt senior Brittany Knight held the Tar Heels at bay in the top of seventh and earned her third victory of the year.
Taylor went 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs and a walk, while Compson went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run.
Pitt took game one, 6-5, and game two 6-4.
NEWS & NOTES
- Senior Hunter Levesque walked it off in game one, hitting a solo home run to right field for her third of the season. Earlier in the same inning, sophomore Kayla Lane hit a game-tying two run home run to left.
- Sophomore EC Taylor finished 5-for-7 for the day with three RBI, three runs and a stolen base.
- Junior Sarah Seamans hit her second homer in as many days in game one and went 4-for-6 with two RBI and a run for the day.
- The Panthers hits four home runs as a team today, with three coming in game one.
